Placements24 is seeking a meticulous Quantity Surveyor for a leading construction and development company in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. You will manage all costs from initial estimates to final figures, negotiate contracts, and provide financial advice to project teams, subcontractors, and clients.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and bills of quantities for tender applications and budgets.
• Manage tender processes, evaluate bids, negotiate with subcontractors, and award contracts.
• Monitor and control project costs, including variations and claims.
• Prepare interim and final payment applications, assessing value of work completed.
• Conduct site visits to measure work and verify progress against contracts.
• Provide expert advice on contractual matters and cost-saving opportunities.
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, and suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and financial regulations.

About the Role

Our client is a leading construction and development company actively involved in significant commercial projects in the Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal region. We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Quantity Surveyor to manage all costs relating to construction projects, from initial calculations to final figures. This role is integral to ensuring financial viability and profitability by controlling costs while maintaining the required standards of quality and safety. The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, subcontractors, and clients to accurately measure and value work, negotiate contracts, and provide essential financial advice. Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and bills of quantities for tender applications and project budgets.
• Manage tender processes, including evaluating bids, negotiating with subcontractors, and awarding contracts.
• Monitor and control project costs throughout the construction lifecycle, including managing variations and claims.
• Prepare interim and final payment applications, assessing the value of work completed.
• Conduct site visits to measure work done and verify progress against contract documents.
• Provide expert advice on contractual matters and cost-saving opportunities.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and financial regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying or a related construction field.
• Professional registration with the South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession (SACPVP) or similar is advantageous.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a focus on commercial construction projects.
• Proficiency in cost estimation software and standard measurement practices (e.g., SMM).
• Strong understanding of construction contracts (e.g., JBCC, FIDIC).
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and financial management skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work effectively in a hybrid environment.
