Introduction
Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor who will be responsible for producing contract/tender documentation, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost estimates, project financial monitoring and control, measuring of quantities and issuing of payment certificates for large, multi-million rands infrastructure and Mine Closure projects that involve the rehabilitation of ownerless and derelict mines. The incumbent will also be expected to assist with construction project management.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
- Prepare full tender and contract documents and compile all specifications for applicable works ensuringthat all documents accurately capture the nature, size and scope of the project.
- Measure quantities from drawings, designs and on site to prepare accurate BOQs and cost estimatesfor heavy earthworks and mine rehabilitation.
- Conducting pre-feasibility studies and community engagement.
- Conduct feasibility analysis and project scoping - including cost planning, value engineering, valuemanagement, cost benefit analysis and life-cycle costing.
- Provide coaching and guidance to less experienced staff, junior quantity surveyors and interns toincrease the company’s technical competence.
Construction Supervision:
- Conduct on-site payment certificate measurements and issue contractor’s interim payment certificates.
- Provide cost related technical oversite to Resident Engineers.
- Address any on-site cost variations and issue Variation Orders.
- Attend Progress Meetings and arrange and facilitate technical/coordination meetings.
Project Coordination:
- Prepare monthly financial reports and cash-flow projections and be responsible for project
cost/quantities tracking.
- Assist Project Manager in compiling quarterly reports for submission to DMR.
Stakeholder Management:
- Interact with key stakeholders to understand, anticipate and manage their expectations.
- Manage relations between the contractors and mining communities, ensuring that potential areas aremanaged or escalated to the client accordingly.
SHEQ management:
- Ensure that effective SHEQ procedures are in place so that contractors and workers operate in a safeand healthy environment.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation at all sites where Mintek is operating including MineHealth and Safety Act.
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge of the public sector or mining industry.
- Strong project management and business development skills are required.
- 10 years’ quantity surveying experience involving heavy earthworks, mine rehabilitation andclosure.
Nature of experience:
- Extensive Quantity Surveying experience including contract documentation and management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum: BSc. Hon Quantity Surveying or equavalent.
- Ideal: MSc. Quantity Surveying/NQF Level 9 will be advantageous.
- Professional Registration (PrQS).
- Working knowledge of SHEQ, Risk Control and Legal Compliance legislation.
