Job summary

WENZ is seeking a hands-on Quantity Surveyor to join the Paarl team. You will oversee commercial and contractual aspects, work closely with site teams, contractors and stakeholders to keep projects on budget, on time and to the required quality standards.

The role requires 3–5+ years in Quantity Surveying with strong site experience, and a willingness to be site-based and travel between project sites. Salary offers are R30 000–R40 000 per month depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Requires a Quantity Surveying qualification and 3–5+ years' experience in Quantity Surveying, preferably in construction/property development.
• Strong site-based construction experience and ability to work with contractors and subcontractors.
• Proficiency in cost control, budgets, BOQs, valuations and variations; excellent numerical and analytical skills.

Quantity Surveyor – Site & Project Management

Location: Paarl, Western Cape

About the role

We are looking for an experienced and hands‑on Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Paarl. This is an excellent opportunity for a QS who enjoys being involved beyond the numbers and has a strong understanding of construction sites, project coordination and cost management.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the commercial and contractual aspects of projects while working closely with site teams, contractors, suppliers and project stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on budget, on time and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and manage project budgets, cost estimates and cash‑flow forecasts.
• Measure quantities, prepare BOQs and monitor project expenditure.
• Obtain, evaluate and negotiate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Manage subcontractor and supplier costs and payments.
• Monitor project costs against budgets and identify potential cost overruns.
• Manage variations, claims, valuations and final accounts.
• Conduct regular site visits and work closely with site management.
• Monitor construction progress against project programmes and budgets.
• Assist with procurement and appointment of subcontractors and suppliers.
• Verify work completed on site for payment purposes.
• Identify and resolve commercial and cost‑related issues during construction.
• Maintain accurate project cost records and provide regular financial reports.
• Liaise with architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers and other professional teams.
• Assist with project planning, coordination and implementation.
• Ensure contractual and commercial requirements are adhered to.
• Provide input into project management decisions and assist in keeping projects on track.
• Attend site and project meetings as required.
• Assist with the successful completion and close‑out of projects.

Requirements

• Relevant Quantity Surveying qualification.
• 3–5+ years' experience in Quantity Surveying, preferably within the construction/property development environment.
• Strong site‑based construction experience.
• Experience working with contractors and subcontractors.
• Good understanding of construction processes and project lifecycles.
• Experience with cost control, budgets, BOQs, valuations and variations.
• Project management experience would be highly advantageous.
• Strong Excel and MS Office skills.
• Excellent numerical and analytical ability.
• Good communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
• Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.
• Willingness to be site‑based and travel between project sites when required.

Professional registration as a PrQS is not essential.

The ideal candidate

We are looking for someone who is more than a desk‑based QS — a practical, commercially minded professional who is comfortable getting involved on site, understands construction firsthand and can work closely with the project team to keep costs, contractors and timelines under control.

A candidate with a combination of QS + site management + project management experience would be particularly well suited to this position.
