Job summary

Nedbank is seeking a graduate/early-career Quantitative Analyst to contribute to capital and impairment modelling and risk assessment strategies. The role involves developing, validating, and presenting models to governance bodies, and ensuring data accuracy throughout the model lifecycle.

You will work with stakeholders to address queries, support data extraction and ad-hoc analysis, and help maintain a robust knowledge base while advancing Nedbank's risk analytics capabilities in a dynamic

Job description

To contribute to the development and maintenance of best practice of capital and impairment models and assessment strategies in line with regulations (where applicable) in order to facilitate world class risk management.


Job Responsibilities


  • Develop, maintain and validate best practice capital and impairment models.

  • Present models and supporting analysis to stakeholders for approval.

  • Manage the model submissions through the governance requirements.

  • Manage stakeholder expectations by liaising with stakeholders through the model build process.

  • Ensure continuity and knowledge base through documenting and recording processes and models.

  • Ensure data accuracy through data and front-end analysis; pre and post implementation of system/strategy changes.

  • Take corrective action where risk is identified in any processes; models or reporting; through analysis and formal communication.

  • Ensure accuracy and feasibility through impact analysis for newly developed model.

  • Challenge other model builds through peer review participation and ensuring best practice.

  • Seek opportunities to improve business processes; models and systems by identifying and recommending effective ways to operate and adding value to Nedbank.

  • Ensure business needs are met by engaging and assisting business through interaction and attendance at forums and committees.

  • Assist the business to address queries by extracting and analysing data. Perform ad hoc analysis and complete data requests through monitoring of data as per client specification.

  • Provide insights enabling growth through analytical research; systems and marketing insights by delivering analytical results and making recommendations to stakeholders.

  • Establish understanding of processes by bridging the gap between operational and analytical concepts through communication.

  • Support the achievement of the business strategy; objectives and values by reviewing Nedbank and Business Unit Plan and ensuring delivered systems; process; services and solutions are aligned.

  • Improve personal capability and stay abreast of developments in field of expertise by identifying training courses and career progression for self through input and feedback from managers.

  • Ensure personal growth and enable effectiveness in performance of roles and responsibilities by ensuring all learning activities are completed; experience practiced and certifications obtained and/or maintained within specified time frames.

  • Enable skilling and required corrective action to take place by sharing knowledge and industry trends with team and stakeholders during formal and informal interaction.

  • Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals by participating in Nedbank Culture building initiatives (e.g. staff surveys etc).

  • Participate and support corporate responsibility initiatives for the achievement of business strategy (e.g. Green Strategy).

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level


  • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate

  • Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees


Preferred Qualification

We are looking for candidates with a strong academic background in quantitative disciplines. The ideal candidate will hold:



  • A postgraduate qualification in Statistics, Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Econometrics, or a related field.

  • Professional certifications such as CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), FRM (Financial Risk Manager), CQF (Certificate in Quantitative Finance), or equivalent quantitative and risk management certifications will be advantageous.


Minimum Experience Level

Graduate - recent graduate or early-career professional with a qualification in a quantitative field.
