A leading recruitment firm in South Africa is seeking a Quality Control & Assurance specialist to supervise inspections throughout the production process. The ideal candidate will enforce compliance with various ISO standards and lead a team of quality inspectors. Responsibilities include conducting inspections, performing root cause analyses, and maintaining quality documentation. This role requires a strong understanding of quality assurance methodologies and exceptional leadership skills.
Minimum requirements:
Supervise inspections at raw material, in-process, and final production stages. Check product dimensions, tolerances, materials, surface finishes, and functional performance against engineering drawings and specs. Validate special processes such as welding, machining, heat treatment, coating, assembly, etc Appro finished goods for delivery and ensure conformity with customer requirements. Maintain and improve inspection standards, control plans, and checklists.
Review and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, BOMs, and revision changes. Participate in DFM/DFA reviews to identify quality risks early. Support prototype builds and First Article Inspection (FAI). Collaborate with engineering on deviations, rework instructions, and design adjustments. Ensure measurement and test methods align with technical specifications.
Lead and mentor a team of quality inspectors, technicians, and lab personnel. Allocate inspection work and align schedules with production plans. Train teams on inspection methods, measurement tools, and documentation. Conduct performance reviews, coach staff, and address training needs.
Enforce compliance with manufacturing and quality standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, IATF 16949 (automotive), AS9100 (aerospace), API/Q1‑Q2 (oil & gas), etc. Support internal and external audits. Maintain calibration for measurement tools (CMM, micrometers, gauges, torque tools, etc.). Ensure SHEQ policies are followed on the shop floor.
Investigate product defects, scrap, rework, and customer complaints. Lead structured problem-solving using 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA, Pareto, PDCA. Implement corrective and preventive action (CAPA). Verify effectiveness of corrective actions and update processes accordingly.
Maintain inspection records, test reports, calibration logs, and NCR logs. Ensure traceability of materials, batches, heat numbers, serial numbers, etc. Prepare quality KPIs: scrap rates, rework, defects, downtime, trends. Control quality-related documentation such as SOPs, WIs, control plans, quality manuals.
Perform supplier quality evaluations and incoming inspections. Work with suppliers on NCRs and corrective action plans. Engage customers on quality issues, FATs, documentation packages, and complaint resolution. Present quality performance trends and improvement actions when required.
