Square 1 Recruitment is recruiting for an established precision engineering and manufacturing company in Alberton, Gauteng, to hire a Product Quality Engineer tasked with owning quality requirements across new product introductions, development and process changes.

The role emphasizes hands-on APQP, PPAP, PFMEA and Control Plans, ensuring readiness for manufacture while complying with ISO 9001 and IATF 16949, working across Engineering, Quality and Production.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or Degree in Quality Engineering, TQM, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years' relevant engineering or quality experience in manufacturing.
• Hands-on APQP, PPAP, PFMEA and Control Plans experience essential.
• Strong ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 knowledge.
• Experience in automotive, precision engineering or component manufacturing advantageous.
• Ability to interpret drawings and customer quality requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate APQP activities for new products and engineering changes.
• Manage PPAP documentation, submissions and customer approval requirements.
• Develop and maintain PFMEAs and Control Plans.
• Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001 and customer quality requirements.
• Review drawings, specifications and customer requirements for quality conformance.

Our client, an established precision engineering and manufacturing company based in Alberton, Gauteng , is looking for an experienced Product Quality Engineer to take ownership of Engineering quality requirements across new product introductions, product development and manufacturing process changes.

This is a hands‑on technical role suited to someone who understands the Automotive Quality Core Tools and enjoys working across Engineering, Quality and Production to ensure products are ready for manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate APQP activities for new products and engineering changes, ensuring quality requirements are addressed throughout the development process.
• Manage PPAP documentation, submissions and customer approval requirements.
• Develop, review and maintain PFMEAs and Control Plans , ensuring manufacturing risks are identified and effectively controlled.
• Ensure engineering projects comply with IATF 16949, ISO 9001 and customer‑specific quality requirements.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications and customer requirements to ensure products meet technical and quality standards.
• Coordinate product validation, inspection, testing and supporting quality documentation.
• Verify production readiness before new or modified products are released into manufacturing.

Requirements

• A National Diploma or Degree in Quality Engineering, Total Quality Management, Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years' relevant Engineering or Quality experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Practical, hands‑on experience with APQP, PPAP, PFMEA and Control Plans is essential.
• Strong understanding of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 quality requirements.
• Experience in automotive, precision engineering or component manufacturing would be highly advantageous.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and customer quality requirements.
• Experience with product and process risk assessments, validation, quality documentation and engineering changes.
• Experience dealing with customers and suppliers on technical and quality matters.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, organisational and communication skills.
