Job summary

SA Metal Group is seeking a Qualified Mechanical Fitter in Gauteng to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will perform hydraulic and mechanical fault finding, component replacement on mobile equipment, and routine machine maintenance.

The role requires a Red Seal Fitter qualification with at least 5 years post-qualification experience, and a valid Code 8 driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle. You must be able to work under pressure and in a team environment.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Fitter qualification is required.
• Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience.
• Experience on stationary and earth-moving machinery.
• Valid code 8 driver’s license and own reliable vehicle.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Fault finding on hydraulic and mechanical systems.
• Remove and replace major components on mobile equipment.
• Replace defective/leaking hydraulic hoses, fittings and seals.
• Inspect and maintain blade clearance on Mobile Shear machines.
• Record and manage stock levels of oils, fittings, cylinders, pipes and spares.
• Perform greasing and oil topping on machines.
• Carry out routine inspections and quality control checks.
• Troubleshoot machinery breakdowns.
• Do planned and unplanned maintenance.

Job description

The Engineering Department in Gauteng has a vacancy for a hardworking, dedicated Qualified Mechanical Fitter to join their team. Our comprehensive in-house technical facilities, staffed by qualified Engineers and Artisans, are responsible for our machines and equipment. The successful candidate will report to the Engineering Manager.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Hydraulic and mechanical fault finding on equipment.
• Remove and replace major components on mobile equipment.
  (e.g. Hydraulic valves, grabs, hydraulic cylinders, alternators, starter motors)
• Replace defective/ leaking hydraulic hoses, fittings and seals on mobile and stationary machines.
• Replace blades and regularly check blade clearance on Mobile Shear machines.
• Record and control stock levels of oils, hydraulic fittings, hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic pipes and spares that he uses frequently.
• Greasing and topping up oils on all machines.
• Carry out routine inspections on machines.

QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE

• A Red Seal Fitter Qualification
