Job Description

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Maintain the continuity of pump operations
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance and installation of pumps, pipelines and dewatering system.
  • Supervise routine pump maintenance.
  • Coordinate servicing, repairs and part replacements to prevent downtime.
  • Record daily water volumes, pump hours and breakdowns.
  • Enforce adherence to health and safety standards
  • Ensure compliance with Mine health and safety act.
  • Supervise pump attendants and ensure that a safe working environment is maintained.
  • Provide guidance on pump operation, maintenance and safety protocols
  • Organize shift rotations and ensure adequate resource for continuous pump operations.
  • Conduct inspections on pumps, pump lines and valves.
  • Assign tasks and monitor team performance.
  • Conduct safety briefings and job risk assessments.

This role is at a Band 9 level reporting to the Engineering Foreman.

Qualifications
  • Grade 12
  • Certified competent as Pump Team Supervisor
Experience, Technical knowledge skills
  • 2–3 years of experience as a Pump Operator
  • Pump operation: Proficiency in operating various pump types (e.g., centrifugal, positive displacement, submersible).
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and repair: Ability to diagnose and fix issues with components like seals, bearings, and valves.
  • Safety procedures: Strict adherence to safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout, proper use of PPE, and confined space entry.
  • Good communication skills.
