Job summary

Valterra Platinum is seeking a Protection Services Senior Superintendent specialising in Forensic Investigation Unit to support the Protection Services Manager FIU. The role focuses on managing high-risk investigations, gathering intelligence, and identifying security threats across the company’s operations.

The successful candidate will lead complex investigations, build stakeholder relationships, and implement control improvements while maintaining governance standards across the FIU function.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years' experience in security, law enforcement, forensic investigation, intelligence, or related environment.
  • At least 5 years' experience in investigations, intelligence gathering, crime analysis, or information management.
  • Experience in the mining, industrial, law enforcement, or corporate security environment.
  • Experience leading investigations and coordinating investigative teams and stakeholders.
  • Exposure to forensic auditing, fraud investigations, or financial crime investigations advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee FIU investigations, safeguarding people, assets, and information.
  • Lead and coordinate high-risk investigations and develop strategies with the Protection Services Manager FIU.
  • Establish information gathering and intelligence processes to support risk-based decisions.
  • Analyse incidents, trends, vulnerabilities and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Ensure governance, records integrity, and reporting of investigations and outcomes.

Job Description

The purpose of the Protection Services Senior Superintendent Specialised: Forensic Investigation Unit (FIU) role is to support the Protection Services Manager FIU in managing specialised investigations, gathering and analysing information, and identifying security risks that may affect Valterra Platinum. The role applies sound investigative practices to help detect wrongdoing, support the recovery of losses, recommend control improvements, and protect the company’s people, assets, and information. This role may involve exposure to personal risk due to the nature of forensic investigation work.

Performance and Delivery
  • Safety: Oversee consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
Investigation & Risk Management
  • Lead and coordinate complex, high-risk, and high-profile investigations to identify offenders, recover losses, support prosecutions, and protect Valterra Platinum's people, assets, information, and reputation.
  • Develop and implement investigation strategies in consultation with the Protection Services Manager FIU to address security threats, criminal activities, and control weaknesses.
  • Establish and maintain effective information gathering and intelligence processes to support risk-based decision-making and proactive threat identification.
  • Analyse security incidents, crime trends, vulnerabilities, and intelligence information, and recommend practical mitigation measures and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and assess emerging risks and threats, recommend appropriate countermeasures, and support the implementation of contingency plans to minimise operational disruption and loss.
  • Provide specialist investigation, intelligence, and risk management advice to management and relevant stakeholders to strengthen security and governance practices.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, communities, specialist advisors, and other stakeholders to support investigation outcomes.
Operational Leadership
  • Coordinate and manage the delivery of FIU objectives, priorities, resources, and workloads to ensure the effective execution of investigation and intelligence activities.
  • Support the implementation of Protection Services standards, policies, procedures, methodologies, and best practices across the operation.
  • Monitor developments in investigation practices, information gathering techniques, and security technologies, and recommend appropriate enhancements to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Contribute to business plans, operational strategies, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the effectiveness and capability of the FIU.
  • Ensure effective utilisation of resources and support financial control within the FIU to achieve business objectives and operational requirements.
  • Act in the Protection Services Manager FIU role when required and provide operational leadership during investigations, incidents, and other critical situations.

Governance, Reporting & Administration
  • Ensure effective administration of investigation, intelligence, employee screening, and reporting processes in accordance with company policies, standards, and legislative requirements.
  • Monitor incident reporting and investigation workflows, ensuring investigations are properly managed, documented, and progressed through to closure, disciplinary action, or criminal prosecution where applicable.
  • Maintain the integrity, confidentiality, accuracy, and security of investigation records, intelligence information, employee records, reports, and operational statistics.
  • Compile and communicate accurate reports, intelligence summaries, investigation findings, and management information to support decision-making and governance requirements.
  • Support the implementation of new systems, technologies, projects, policies, procedures, and work practices that improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications
  • Grade 12
  • National Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Security Management, Policing, Forensic Investigation, Criminal Justice, Intelligence, Risk Management, Forensic Accounting, Law, or a related field.
  • Registered with PSIRA Grade A.
Prescribed Certifications
  • Valid EB/Code 08 driver’s licence
  • PSIRA Grade A registration
Experience
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in security, law enforcement, forensic investigation, intelligence, or a related environment.
  • At least 5 years' experience in investigations, intelligence gathering, crime analysis, or information management.
  • Experience in the mining, industrial, law enforcement, or corporate security environment.
  • Experience leading investigations and coordinating investigative teams and stakeholders.
  • Exposure to forensic auditing, fraud investigations, or financial crime investigations will be advantageous.
Technical Knowledge Required For Role
  • Criminal investigation, forensic investigation, intelligence gathering, and information analysis principles.
  • Security risk management, threat assessment, loss prevention, and crime prevention practices within a mining environment.
  • Crime scene management, evidence handling, interviewing techniques, and investigation case management processes.
  • Relevant legislation, regulations, and governance requirements applicable to investigations, security, and information management.
  • Law enforcement procedures, court processes, disciplinary proceedings, and stakeholder engagement practices.
  • Investigation systems, reporting methodologies, and data analysis techniques used to support decision-making and risk mitigation.
Technical Skills
  • Conduct and lead complex forensic, criminal, and misconduct investigations, including evidence management and case preparation.
  • Gather, analyse, validate, and interpret intelligence and investigation information to identify risks, trends, and criminal activities.
  • Apply investigation methodologies, interviewing techniques, statement-taking, crime scene management, and threat and risk assessment practices.
  • Lead and coordinate investigative teams, resources, and operational activities to achieve investigation and business objectives.
  • Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, and external service providers.
  • Prepare and present investigation findings, reports, and evidence for management, disciplinary proceedings, and criminal prosecutions.
