Purpose of the position:

The successful candidate will be responsible to ensure the successful implementation of assigned projects by working closely with the Director, Senior Managers, other Project Managers, Engineering Managers and Discipline Leads for Inland Petrochemical Operations, Vanderbijlpark.

Qualifications/Experience:
  • BTech, BEng, or BSc Eng. degree or similar, preferably in the field of Electrical, Control, Instrumentation, Chemical or Mechanical.
  • PMP registered will be an advantage.
  • Other relevant professional engineering and project management registrations (e.g. SACPCMP and PrEng) will be an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant project‑management experience; Sasol or relevant petrochemical industry experience will be an advantage.
  • Skilled in project planning.
  • Skilled in project controls.
  • Contract management experience; NEC3 contracting experience will be an advantage.
  • Experience in a multi‑discipline project environment.
  • Driver’s licence and own transport.
Required Outputs and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible to take projects from Pre‑feasibility, Feasibility, Engineering & Design phase (Basic & Detail Engineering) to Execution (Construction, Commissioning, and handover to Client).
  • Responsible for executing projects effectively and efficiently within budget, on‑time, to the required quality and safety standards.
  • Integrated project planning.
  • Control of various scheduling and project planning tasks.
  • Manage the cashflow on the project, including invoicing to the Client and managing sub‑contractor costs.
  • Co‑ordinate monthly progress meetings internal and external.
  • Resource planning.
  • Engage actively with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure they understand the scope and schedule.
  • Continuous engagement with Client and stakeholders regarding project related matters.
  • Contract management (NEC3 and others).
  • Compilation of quotations and estimates for new projects.
  • Monthly reporting on the progress and performance of projects to the project sponsor and Client.
  • Projects to be executed will mainly be in the petrochemical environment and could be multi‑disciplinary, but with the main focus on electrical, control and instrumentation type projects.

  • Knowledge of applicable health, safety and environment codes, standards, and legislation.

  • Lead and influence where appropriate.
  • Understand the logic of executing the full life cycle of projects.
