Job Description
The role involves overseeing the administration, development and implementation of ECD, Nutrition, Health & Wellness and Social Services projects, including coordinating stakeholders, designing new initiatives and creating project plans, timelines and budgets. It includes leading early-stage project development, supporting CBOs with logistics and guidance, managing communications and knowledge products, and maintaining project databases.
The position also requires monitoring and evaluation through site visits, ensuring compliance with policies and donor requirements, and driving advocacy, networking and policy influence in the sector. Additional responsibilities include supporting fundraising and business development through donor engagement, proposal writing and partnership building, as well as developing systems and processes to ensure project scalability and supporting new organisational initiatives as needed.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Administration, implementation, and development of all ECD/Nutrition/H&W/Social services related projects, including the facilitation of collaboration between stakeholders through convening meetings and online sessions
- Lead the scoping, design and early-stage development of new projects not yet established, ensuring readiness for rapid implementation once funding is secured
- Work closely with the senior leadership team to conceptualise new programme models, pilot initiatives, and strategic innovations aligned to organisational priorities
- Develop and design project & implementation plans, timelines and work‑breakdown structures; coordinate implementation of activities and monitoring & evaluation; identify and manage risks; build and maintain stakeholder relationships
- Carry out logistical arrangements and strategic guidance for all CBOs and any other projects that may be assigned over time ensuring alignment to project goals, scope and deliverables
- Management of communications for all projects including the use of social media and other online platforms
- Manage the collaborative development of ECD/Nutrition/H&W/Social services knowledge products such as reports, maps and resources
- Managing databases, knowledge flow and storage for all projects
- Advocacy, networking and policy influence in the ECD/Nutrition/H&W/Social services sector
- Development of budgets and financial management of ECD/Nutrition/H&W/Social services projects ensuring efficient resource allocation and controls
- Knowledge management which entails capturing, documenting and disseminating online training and other meetings online
- Support business development efforts by identifying potential partnerships, contributing to concept notes, participating in fundraising pitches, and strengthening stakeholder networks to grow Starfish’s project pipeline
- Work with donors, corporate partners and government stakeholders to secure new opportunities, ensure alignment with funding criteria, and support organisational sustainabilit
- Implementation of fundraising strategies including donor‑relations, proposal and report writing
- Conduct regular site visits to the various ECD centres and project communities (within South Africa) to monitor programme implementation, ensure compliance with policies, best practice and funding requirements, and mentor and coach the centres to strengthen their operations
- Ensure project scalability by developing systems, tools and processes that can support project growth to new regions or new thematic areas
- Perform any additional duties related to new initiatives, project expansion opportunities or strategic organisational priorities.
Qualifications And Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree / Higher Diploma (Advantageous)
- A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a project management position within a development related organisation
- Experience working with civil society organisations, funders and government departments, preferably in the area of ECD/Nutrition/H&W/Social services
- Valid Driver’s Licence (PDP and Code 10 would be advantageous)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid police clearance
