A nonprofit organization for disaster recovery seeks a Project Manager to oversee response projects in South Africa. The role requires strong leadership and project management skills, overseeing construction teams and ensuring adherence to safety and quality measures. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture and relevant experience, along with a commitment to being fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Position PurposeA versatile position within a dynamic nonprofit that helps communities recover after disasters and gets children back in school.
The position is full-time and is responsible for developing and overseeing the response projects to help impacted communities and managing the construction team.Start Date ASAPReporting RelationshipsReports to Program DirectorRoles reporting to position Response Coordinator, Field Coordinator, Assistant Project Manager, Construction Site Coordinator and Site SupervisorApproximate number of reports 3-5Essential FunctionsDevelop the project scopes-of-work, milestones, and detailed timeline and budget and track these accurately, updating the necessary tracking systems e.g. Salesforce, MS Project.In cooperation with the Program Director, oversee implementing the project whilst adhering to the approved timeline and budget constraints, tracking and reviewing all field related expenses.Manage and coordinate the program work queue through planning and execution of the work of the Field Coordination team and by liaising with the Community Coordinator and other team members as needed.Establish and develop clear work and safety practices for the project and communicate these with site teams (field team staff and volunteer team leaders).
Support the Program Director in the development, implementation, and review of the Health, Safety and Security procedures for base and sites.Recruit and train project team members to ensure compliance with project standards in safety and work quality.Establish assessment criteria and manage and support the project team to carry out assessments and beneficiary selection processes to identify and implement additional projects.Continuously develop and evaluate the project scope, quality and impact, through a meaningful monitoring and evaluation framework.Provide supportive leadership, manage a diverse staff team, volunteers and local staff and empower them to carry out their work effectively and efficiently.Manage and support the field team to implement efficient procurement processes for the project sitesOversee the hiring and vetting of subcontractorsCompile weekly and fortnightly progress reports for the Program Director and off program managementSupport the Program Director in compiling program specific fortnightly reports for the organizationWe understand vaccination is the best way to protect our beneficiaries, community members, staff and volunteers, therefore we require all of our on program staff members to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
To be considered for this position you must be fully vaccinated.
Subject to applicable guidance, the term fully vaccinated currently refers to when an individual has received either a single-shot vaccine or both doses of a two-shot vaccine, and two weeks have elapsed since the final dose.Perform other duties as requiredPosition RequirementsEducation Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture preferred.Related Experience Previous All Hands and Hearts experience preferred.
1+ years experience project management in an international context.
1+ years experience managing teamsSpecial Competencies / Certifications Must be able to secure and maintain appropriate visas.
Turkish fluency desired.
Driver's license required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and confident working with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, and AutoCAD.
Knowledge of MS Project is an advantage.
Applicants need to be well organized and have a flexible approach to managing multiple tasks and prioritizing them appropriately with a developed and clear management style.
The individual is able to manage a large workload and perform in a fast-paced environment.
