Job Description
To proactively, establish, manage, audit and ensure provision of project controls services that is consistent with global standards and represent good practice.
- Build a world class Project Controls Function for office and on‑Site projects.
- Direct the establishment and implementation of project control procedures, tools, systems and best practices for use on projects. Oversee modifications to these procedures for specific client requirements. Project control procedures are to encompass all activities and systems relating to planning, estimating and document controlling.
- Responsible to oversee, implement, maintain and support the continued development of enterprise management tools (Primavera P3, P6, Oracle Risk Analysis, MS project, etc.) and contract management tools.
- Actively support business development efforts by providing and Project Control input and resources, including estimates, plans and management support.
- Stay abreast of new trends and innovations.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of Project Control staff to ensure project costs and schedule are effectively managed through the various stages of a project.
- Provide input at bid stage on all risk level projects.
- Consolidate and issue the Project Control Statements (PCS) and the Monthly Project Review Document (MPRD) on a monthly basis for all projects.
- Lead effort in Benchmarking and Project Close‑Out requirements, in order to implement lessons learnt and promotes a continuous improvement culture.
- Manage and oversee the overall administration of the project controls function for the business unit or major projects basis.
- Ensure team participation by attending and participating in the following meetings:
- Proposal Kick off meeting
- Progress and coordination meeting
- Risk analysis meeting
- Price fix meeting to provide estimate summary to Management
- Actively promote the Company's professional image, both internally & externally.
- Implement and manage adhoc projects and duties as may be required and assigned from time to time.
- Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
- Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
Qualifications
- Grade 12
- BSc Degree, or CA / BCom degree, or other appropriate qualification
- PMI, AACEI certification
Skills And Experience
- Minimum 5 years proven experience within Projects / EPCM environment
- Pro‑active decision making and able to take accountability in a fast‑paced pressurized project environment driven by cost and schedule objectives
- Management of people in a team environment and the ability to keep momentum in motivation and productivity is paramount.
- Proven experience in the following areas: capital estimating, project planning, project cost control and project document control
- User experience in the following software: Microsoft Office Package (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Primavera P6, Primavera Risk Analysis (PRA), Oracle Business Suite, SAP
Required Skills / Knowledge
- Cost estimation: Understanding cost of design and ability to estimate cost related to a project or specific activity
- Estimating methods: Good understanding of conceptual, capacity factored, mechanical factored and definitive methods.
- Risk analysis: Ability to identify project and activities risks from any point of view
- Basic IT Tools: Use of office automation software tools and basic comber application.
- Estimating control document: Development of estimating spreadsheet that can cope with the complexity of the project and any movement in factors, rates, foreign exchange, commodity prices etc.
- Cost control: Knowledge of cost engineering principles: total cost management and total quality management etc.-
- Change management: Ability to effectively and efficiently manage changes during the course of the project
- Commercial Principles: Understanding of contract types and of their main features
- Legislation & Standards: Knowledge of sector specific law e.g. Engineering, safety etc. and standard specifications e.g. plant layout requirements etc.
- Project Management: Knowledge of basic project management methods and all project lifecycle phases
- Planning & Scheduling: Ability to plan using tools, methods and best practices. Familiarity with schedule classes and levels and familiarity with Earned Value and its application to scheduling and reporting
