Job summary

dhk Architects is seeking a Project Controller in Cape Town to manage independent financial oversight of projects from bid to close. You will work with Project Managers and Contract Managers to ensure compliance with group standards, accurate reporting, forecasting, and risk management across the full lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include setting up projects in the ERP system, managing billing milestones, and performing quarterly financial reviews.

Qualifications

• Experience in project finance and managing financials across the full project lifecycle.
• Understanding of contract terms and revenue recognition concepts.
• Ability to review risks and opportunities and support Go/No Go decisions.

Responsibilities

• Attend handover from bid to execution and review contract financial terms.
• Set up the project, billing plan, and revenue schedule in the ERP system.
• Issue advance payment invoices and manage bonds where applicable.
• Input and validate initial forecast and present to management.
• Lead financial review at project progress meetings and explain variances.
• Monitor cash timing by optimizing billing milestones and chasing overdue payments.
• Perform month-end close activities including time bookings and intercompany transactions.
• Verify project closing with customers and final settlements.
• Participate in lessons-learned reviews and contribute to continuous improvement.

TheProject Controller provides independent financial management of projects frombid to close. Sitting within Finance and working closely with Operations, therole works alongside Project Managers & Contract Managers to ensure theprojects compliance with group standards regarding financial performance, accurate& timely reporting, forecasting and risk management across the full projectlifecycle.

• Helpthe Bid Manager build the cost model and assess financial viability
• Reviewrisks and opportunities; support the Go / No Go decision

What you'll Need

• Project finance experience
• Engineering, consulting or professional services background preferred
• Contract literacy
• Comfortable with billing structures, revenue recognition terms and risk allocation

Project Set-Up

• Attendthe handover from bid to execution team; review the contract's financial terms
• Confirmthe appropriate revenue recognition method for the contract type
• Setup the project, billing plan, and revenue schedule in the ERP system
• Issueadvance payment invoices; arrange performance and advance payment bonds
• Inputand validate the initial financial forecast; present to management

Delivery : Ongoing

• Leadthe financial review at project progress meetings (at least quarterly)
• Analyseactuals against forecast; explain variances; update cost-to-complete
• Reviewrisks and opportunities with the PM; adjust contingencies as the projectmatures
• Optimisebilling milestones to improve cash timing
• Prepareand issue customer invoices; chase overdue payments; agree recovery actionswith
• Runmonth-end close: time bookings, intercompany transactions, cost accruals,revenue reconciliations
• Monitorbonds and guarantees; request releases as milestones are metSupporttax queries and respond to audit requests

Close-Out

• Verifythe project closing checklist; confirm final financial settlement with thecustomer
• Closepurchase orders, booking codes, and remaining bonds; confirm insurancecancellation
• Ensureall revenue is invoiced and collected with no residual balances
• Participatein the lessons-learned review
