Purpose of the Role
The Strategy Consultant will support the development and implementation of the organisational transformation programme, including the integration of strategic content, workstreams, implementation priorities, timelines, resources, change management and communications. The consultant will advise programme leadership on strategic content and activities while maintaining accountability for programme timelines and resources throughout the engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Transformation Advisory
- Provide strategic advice and support in refining the overall transformation programme.
- Refine the strategic intent and underlying transformation logic.
- Translate strategic objectives into clearly defined transformation priorities and interventions.
- Test the coherence, relevance and potential impact of proposed initiatives.
- Provide independent strategic advice to strengthen transformation decisions.
- Support executive leadership in maintaining strategic alignment throughout implementation.
Implementation Strategy, Timelines and Resources
- Develop and maintain an integrated transformation implementation roadmap.
- Determine the appropriate sequencing and phasing of transformation initiatives.
- Establish realistic timelines, milestones and critical delivery points.
- Assess resource requirements across workstreams and identify capability or capacity gaps.
- Identify critical dependencies, constraints and implementation risks affecting delivery.
Cross-Divisional Coordination
- Work closely with division and workstream leads to translate strategy into defined deliverables, milestones and accountabilities.
Timeline and Resource Oversight
- Maintain accountability for the master programme plan, milestones and critical path across all workstreams.
- Provide oversight of workstream resources, highlighting capacity constraints and advising on resourcing requirements.
Governance Support
- Prepare strategic briefing material, reports and recommendations for governance structures, including Steering Committees and executive sponsors.
Risk Advisory
- Identify strategic and delivery risks.
- Advise on mitigation strategies and elevate risks where appropriate.
Change Management
- Manage change management deliverables as part of the broader transformation programme and approved change management plan.
Communications Management
- Manage communication deliverables as part of the broader transformation programme and approved communication plan.
Candidate Requirements
Professional Background
- Strategy consulting background, ideally with a recognised strategy or management consulting firm.
Relevant Experience
- Demonstrable experience as a strategy consultant within a team that developed and implemented a transformation programme for a large organisation.
Strategic Capability
- Strong analytical and problem-structuring capability.
- Ability to develop options, recommendations and executive-level advisory material.
Execution Capability
- Proven ability to manage execution across multiple divisions and workstreams.
- Experience defining deliverables and driving them through to completion.
Reporting Line
The Strategy Consultant will report directly to the Project Manager and engage regularly with the Steering Committee and relevant workstream leads throughout the engagement.
