The Faculty of Art Design and Architecture (FADA) seeks an accomplished academic and Visual Artist to join our Visual Arts Department.
The appointment will be made at the level of Professor or Associate Professor depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

Reporting to the Head of Department, the successful candidate will take primary responsibility as a Module Leader in the teaching of Printmaking, and bring expertise in at least one other area of our undergraduate programme (Painting, Sculpture, Drawing, New Media / photography / videography, and / or History of Art).
Beyond the studio, the successful candidate will contribute actively to the strategic plan of the Faculty and the University, playing a key role in driving innovation in teaching, curriculum development, research, internationalisation and community engagement.
Provide senior leadership in the strategic development and growth of Visual Art programmes.
Provide academic leadership that fosters collaboration, innovation, and excellence in teaching, research and community engagement.
Deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including lectures, seminars, workshops and research methodologies.
Mentor and supervise students, Tutors, Research Fellows, postgraduate candidates and junior staff, supporting their academic, creative and professional development.
Undertake research and / or creative practice that advances the discipline and results in DHET accredited outputs.
Build and maintain industry and community networks that enhance student engagement, experiential learning and external partnerships.
Coordinate curriculum delivery, programme administration and departmental events, while contributing to efficient academic operations.
A Doctorate in Visual Art or a cognate discipline is required for appointment at Professor or Associate Professor level.
Demonstrated academic leadership experience appropriate to the seniority of the role.
A strong track record in teaching in a higher education environment.
A strong record of accredited research output, whether creative or textual.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
Proven leadership and organisational ability, underpinned by emotional intelligence, integrity, and professionalism.
Critical thinking, problem-solving and the ability to work independently under pressure.
Demonstrated capacity to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students and community partners.
Proven innovation and creativity in teaching, research and professional practice.
Relevant digital literacy and curriculum development experience.
NRF rating or ability to achieve one would be a strong recommendation.
Demonstrated leadership and vision for advancing Visual Art's role in social impact, including community engagement and its application within 4IR and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Global South research and engagement with academics or institutions in the Global South.
