Job description
Overview

Professional Services Engineer

Redherd is assisting a leading security engineering team in finding a hands-on Professional Services Engineer who enjoys solving complex security problems and helping customers stay ahead of attackers. We work with some of the most respected security teams in the world, connecting top talent with organisations that build cutting-edge defensive capabilities.

The team behind this role is known for building simple, powerful security tools trusted by defenders around the world. They pride themselves on thoughtful engineering, strong customer support, and shipping technology that genuinely makes a difference. This is a high-impact role in a small, technically exceptional team.

You’ll wear multiple hats — sometimes guiding customers through advanced deployments, other times scripting automations to make their lives easier, and often brainstorming clever ways to detect and frustrate attackers.

What You’ll Do
  • Engage with customers to understand their security challenges and goals
  • Provide hands-on support, walkthroughs, and product demonstrations
  • Build tools and scripts to automate deployments and streamline operations
  • Review customer environments, run health checks, and tune configurations for optimal coverage
  • Research and develop PoCs for new detection ideas and bring new capabilities into the product
  • Contribute to internal tooling, documentation, and process improvements
  • Act as a customer advocate, helping shape future product features
Location

Global / Remote-Friendly

If you’re based near major hubs in South Africa, there’s the option to collaborate in person — but remote work is fully supported.

What We’re Looking For

You don’t need to tick every box, but you should have strength in several of the following areas :

  • Strong scripting / automation background (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
  • Understanding of attacker behaviour (initial access, lateral movement, reconnaissance)
  • Solid grounding in networking (TCP / IP, DNS), web technologies (HTTP / S, APIs), and operating systems (Windows and Linux)
  • Curiosity and a “how does this work / how can I break it” mindset
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
Nice to Have
  • Experience in pentesting, incident response, or threat detection
  • Work with deception technologies or honeypots
  • Contributions to open-source or security tooling
  • Experience supporting global customers and remote teams
Why This Role

This is an opportunity to work with a security-focused engineering team that values thoughtful solutions, collaboration, and helping defenders win. You’ll be part of a small, impactful group working on technology that’s used and trusted globally.
