Job summary

A leading health care provider seeks a Night Shift Nurse in Rustenburg to supervise and control the quality of health care. Job description
PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To monitor, supervise and control the provision of quality health care during the night shift, according to the professional standards required, including Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Graduation with a Nursing diploma/degree is essential.
  • Graduation with a Primary Health Care and Dispensing certificate is essential.
  • Registration with the SA Nursing Council and SASOHN is essential.
  • Three years of work experience as a professional/occupational nurse is essential.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Give and receive ward reports from colleagues.
  • Ensure that quality nursing care is rendered to all patients.
  • Assist with daily ward procedures such as vital signs, urine testing and admission of patients.
  • Assist with total nursing care for all patients, including bedridden.
  • Perform bed making in the ward.
  • Escort patients to X‑ray, theatre and physiotherapy departments.
  • Facilitate allocation to subordinates.
  • Control IV infusions and maintain recordings.
  • Prepare for patient surgery by ensuring required preparations and prescribed drugs.
  • Prepare doctors’ round trolley.
  • Collect blood specimens in the ward.
  • Assist with dressing and manage back and pressure points of patients.
  • Retrieve blood specimen results from the computer.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy ward, especially treatment and sluice rooms.
  • Ensure all staff report for duty and report any absentees.
  • Verify that night staff has sufficient resources for their shift.
  • Orient new staff.
  • Carry out doctors’ prescriptions.
  • Observe company procedures and policies.
