Job summary

A leading consultancy in heritage management based in Pretoria seeks an experienced heritage consultant. The role involves managing projects, conducting research, and ensuring compliance with heritage guidelines. Candidates must have a Master’s degree in Archaeology and at least 5 years of relevant experience. Strong report writing and analytical skills are essential for this position.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Archaeology (minimum).
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (ASAPA).
  • Registered Professional Heritage Practitioner (APHP).
  • Minimum 5 years of NHRA-related professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead heritage projects (HIAs, AIA's, conservation studies, etc.).
  • Conduct archival research, field surveys and site visits.
  • Grade and evaluate heritage resources in line with NHRA and SAHRA guidelines.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications to SAHRA.

About Us

PGS Heritage is a leading consultancy specialising in archaeology, heritage impact assessments, and heritage resource management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and lead heritage projects (HIAs, AIA's, conservation studies, etc.).
  • Conduct archival research, field surveys and site visits.
  • Grade and evaluate heritage resources in line with NHRA and SAHRA guidelines.
  • Pile HIAs for use in EIAs and development frameworks.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications to SAHRA.
  • Provide recommendations on heritage management.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and report to the Unit Manager.
  • Ensure professional conduct aligned with ASAPA and APHP codes.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Archaeology (minimum).
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (ASAPA).
  • Registered Professional Heritage Practitioner (APHP).
  • Minimum 5 years of NHRA-related professional experience.
  • Proven expertise in archaeology, conservation, heritage assessments, or related fields.

  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Strong report writing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word.
