Job description

We are seeking a highly capable Shift Production Team Leader in our Jumbo Factory production department.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all manufacturing activities during their shift, ensuring targets are met safely, efficiently, and in line with quality standards.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Production Manager , the candidate must effectively manage people, equipment, and processes to ensure optimal performance and productivity on shift. The role requires a strong leader who can coach and develop teams, troubleshoot operational issues, and ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations on shift.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following :

  • Manages plant productions, which include raw materials, availability of the machine and equipment, and the quality of the product
  • Oversee all production activities during the shift to ensure output meets quality and efficiency standards.
  • Ensure optimal utilisation of staff, machinery, and materials to meet daily and weekly production targets.
  • Supervise and guide operators and general workers, including task allocation, monitoring attendance, and conducting toolbox talks.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and coordinate with the maintenance team when technical issues arise.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards and procedures.
  • Complete daily shift reports, production records, and communicate key updates to the next shift.
  • Ensure consistent supply of wadding to converting on shift
  • Manage boiler house on shift together with the boiler house operating crew
  • Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and operational discipline on the production floor.
  • Conduct on-the-job training and performance monitoring for staff under supervision.
  • Participate in production planning meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Actively participate in asset management by ensuring plant checks and routine production preventative maintenance is conducted
QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Minimum diploma in Chemical Engineering or Pulp and Paper Technology
  • Min 3+ years’ experience in a production role in a manufacturing environment
