SUMMARY: POSITION INFO:

We are seeking a highly capable Shift Production Team Leader for our Jumbo Factory production department.

The successful candidate will oversee all manufacturing activities during their shift, ensuring targets are met safely, efficiently, and in line with quality standards.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Production Manager, the candidate must effectively manage people, equipment, and processes to ensure optimal performance and productivity during the shift. The role requires a strong leader who can coach and develop teams, troubleshoot operational issues, and ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage plant production, including raw materials, machinery availability, and product quality.
  • Oversee all shift production activities to meet quality and efficiency standards.
  • Ensure optimal utilization of staff, machinery, and materials to meet daily and weekly targets.
  • Supervise and guide operators and general workers, including task allocation, attendance monitoring, and toolbox talks.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and coordinate with maintenance when technical issues arise.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards and procedures.
  • Complete daily shift reports, production records, and communicate updates to the next shift.
  • Maintain a consistent supply of wadding to converting during the shift.
  • Manage boiler house operations with the boiler crew during the shift.
  • Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and operational discipline on the production floor.
  • Conduct on-the-job training and monitor staff performance.
  • Participate in production planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure plant checks and routine preventative maintenance are conducted as part of asset management.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Diploma in Pulp and Paper Technology or related field
  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in a manufacturing production role

RELATION TO OTHERS:

  • Internal: Engineering/maintenance, SHEQ, logistics (warehouse and drivers), HR, senior management
  • External: Contractors, converting team
