A manufacturing company in Gauteng is seeking a highly capable Shift Production Team Leader to oversee all manufacturing activities during shifts. The successful candidate will manage production efficiency, coach teams, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Applicants should have a minimum Diploma in Chemical Engineering, 3+ years of experience in a production role, and excellent leadership skills.
We are seeking a highly capable Shift Production Team Leader in our Jumbo Factory production department. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all manufacturing activities during their shift, ensuring targets are met safely, efficiently, and in line with quality standards. The position reports to the Production Manager, and the candidate must effectively manage people, equipment, and processes to ensure optimal performance and productivity on shift.
The role requires a strong leader who can coach and develop teams, troubleshoot operational issues, and ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations on shift. Key performance areas: responsibilities include managing plant productions, including raw materials, machine and equipment availability, and product quality; overseeing all production activities during the shift to ensure output meets quality and efficiency standards; ensuring optimal utilization of staff, machinery, and materials to meet daily and weekly production targets; supervising and guiding operators and general workers, including task allocation, attendance monitoring, and toolbox talks; performing basic troubleshooting and coordinating with maintenance when technical issues arise; ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards and procedures; completing daily shift reports, production records, and communicating key updates to the next shift; ensuring a consistent supply of wadding to converting on shift; managing boiler house on shift with the boiler house operating crew; maintaining cleanliness, orderliness, and operational discipline on the production floor; conducting on‑job training and monitoring staff performance; participating in production planning meetings and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives; actively participating in asset management by ensuring plant checks and routine preventive maintenance. Qualifications/skills and experience: Grade 12 (Matric); minimum diploma in Chemical Engineering or Pulp and Paper Technology; minimum 3+ years’ experience in a manufacturing production role. Relationship to others: internal – Engineering/Maintenance team, SHEQ team, logistic team (warehouse and drivers), senior management; external – contractors, converting team. Personal attributes: proactive and hands‑on leader; high attention to detail; results‑driven and accountable; strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, health and safety regulations, and quality standards; excellent leadership and people management skills; good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and under pressure; computer literate (Microsoft Office, production systems knowledge advantageous); willingness to work overtime when required; professional, punctual, and dependable; team player with a coaching mindset.
