Job summary

PepsiCo in Johannesburg seeks a Production Supervisor to oversee a team of skilled and semi-skilled employees performing production and assembly operations. You will be involved in training controllers and some supervisors and will report to the Unit HOD.

The role focuses on planning, coordinating, and supervising daily production activities, ensuring food safety, quality, and efficiency, and driving continuous improvement across the operation.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years managerial experience in manufacturing/operations (FMCG)
• Degree or National Diploma in Production/Operations Management or Engineering
• Proficiency in SAP and MS Office
• HACCP, GMP, health and safety compliance knowledge
• Leadership and people management skills
• Experience with preventative maintenance concepts and managing stock/ BOMs

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily production activities to meet targets.
• Lead production teams to drive performance, productivity, and adherence to standards.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, hygiene, and health & safety requirements.
• Monitor production processes and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime, waste, and losses.
• Drive continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives to improve efficiency.
• Manage staffing, attendance, training, and performance in the production area.
• Ensure optimal utilization of raw materials, equipment, and labor resources.
• Monitor stock control processes and minimize stock losses and variances.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless production planning and customer service delivery.
• Support and maintain a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
• Implement new processes and procedures to improve efficiency

Overview

The successful candidate will supervise the activities of a group of skilled and semi-skilled employees engaged in performing a variety of production or assembly operations. Responsible for the training of controllers and some supervisors. Normally reports to Unit HOD.

Responsibilities

• Planning, coordinating, and supervising daily bread production activities / processes to ensure production targets are achieved.
• Managing and leading production teams to drive performance, productivity, and adherence to operational standards.
• Ensuring compliance with food safety, quality, hygiene, and health and safety requirements.
• Monitoring production processes and implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime, waste, and product losses.
• Driving continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives to improve operational efficiency.
• Managing staffing, attendance, training, and performance of employees within the production area including:
• Time & Attendance,
• Leave Management,
• Recruitment and selection,
• Disciplinary actions,
• Engagement,
• Temporary Employees management and cost control
• Ensuring optimal utilization of raw materials, equipment, and labour resources.
• Monitoring stock control processes and implementing preventative measures to minimize stock losses and variances.
• Collaborating with other departments to ensure seamless production planning and customer service delivery.
• Supporting and maintaining a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
• Continuous Business Improvement initiatives to improve efficiencies.
• Ensure product quality and reporting of quality inefficiencies or challenges.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years managerial experience within the manufacturing / operations environment in FMCG industry
• Computer skills including SAP and MS Office
• HACCP, GMP's, health, safety and hygiene compliance
• Degree / National Diploma in Production / Operations Management or Engineering
• Leadership skills
• Sound understanding and application of safety, health & hygiene in a production environment
• Sound understanding of controlled Food manufacturing production processes
• Differentiating Competencies Required
• Completed a Food Technology / Engineering / Production / Operations related Degree / Diploma
• Sound understanding of application of preventative maintenance principles/practices
• Experience to optimize people, plant, machinery and equipment
• Management of a team
• Experience in structured stock take and cycle counts including backflushing and adhering to BOM's
• Experience in planning staff and materials to achieve production targets as per budget
• Experience and exposure to production efficiency in a highly pressurized environment with tight deadlines
• Experience to optimized raw material stock levels in FMCG environment
