Purpose of the Role
As a Production Planner you will be required to plan and coordinate production activities of all manufacturing equipment, assuring maximum efficiency of machines, throughput, and labour in order to optimize profitability, in accordance with customer requirements.
Scheduling and Planning
- Obtain orders from Customer Service in order to create a job in the system, plan production based on capacity and pull system.
- Daily planning of production facility according to capacity and customer requirements in accordance with materials, labour and equipment availability.
- Update schedule to sales for status of jobs and delivery dates.
- Coordinating production workflow to optimize manufacturing capacity.
- Planning and prioritizing operations to ensure maximum performance.
- Monitor job progress to ensure OTIF KPI’s are met.
- Address issues when they arise aiming for minimum disruption.
- Obtain daily output information (number of finished products, percentage of plan achieved, OTIF, etc.)
- Prioritize jobs considering request dates and production efficiencies.
- Communicate and negotiate with the sales if delays occur.
- Clearly communicate relevant departments of changes to current production schedules, promptly addressing and resolving production issues to minimize delays.
Capacity Rationalization
- Work closely with Customer Service and Production in job order sequence to optimize manufacturing capacity on a pull system and ensure all inputs to production are available prior to going to press.
- Monitor production efficiency comparing production hours vs output.
Operations Support
- Support production goals and objectives through managing the initial job plan, while maintaining OTIF and reducing working capital.
- Report backlog daily. Obtain daily output information (number of finished products, percentage of plan achieved, OTIF, etc.).
- Planning and prioritizing operations to ensure maximum performance.
Customer Relationship
- Promote a customer‑focused culture at the Plant, ensuring on‑time deliveries of a quality product and supporting the development of new products and technologies.
- Build a network of relationships within the Corporation and the Plant to manage the scheduling and planning functions.
Continuous Improvement (CI) of planning procedures and systems to enhance operational efficiencies.
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum 3‑5 years proven experience as a production planner in the manufacturing industry.
- Very good knowledge of production planning and manufacturing capacity concepts.
- Minimum grade 12 Senior certificate.
- Further education or certification is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office or equivalent software.
- Formal production planning software training or software knowledge advantageous.
