Job summary

Job description
Job purpose:

Overall management of production department, including but not limited to issues pertaining to efficiency, productivity, staff, equipment, hygiene, health, safety and compliance.

Key Accountability Areas:
Operations:
  • Monitor the weekly packing and pre-sorting plan, and daily packing programs
  • Ensure relevant quality controls are in place, adhere to and meet customer expectations
  • Productivity monitoring and improvement
  • Control process to ensure ordering of materials match packing requirements
  • Ensure that stock control processes and transactions are in line with systems requirements and best practices
  • Ensure efficient packing process that optimise the use of resources and achieve set capacity and productivity levels
  • Verifying stock availability and investigating delays
  • Executing production plans
  • Computing the quantities, qualities and types of materials required by production programmes.
  • Controlling expenditure and ensuring the efficient use of resources
  • Oversee chemical stock and overseeing the mixture thereof
  • Liaise with maintenance team to ensure effective functioning of pack house
  • Must be willing to work irregular hours, including night shift.
Quality and Compliance:
  • Ensure relevant safety controls and standards are in place according to HACCP/BRC and compliance standards
  • Ensure that all work areas and personnel comply with safety regulations and procedures
Human Resource Management:
  • Overseeing the selection, training and performance of staff.
  • Manage staff members by rewarding and disciplining staff members, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Manage and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, and other managers.
  • Manage timesheets, clocking, absenteeism, performance evaluations
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Grade 12
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Production Manager role or similar within the fruit packing industry.
  • Experience working with mechanical sizer is beneficial
  • Relevant operations or agricultural qualification is advantageous
