Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years sailing as Production Manager or Assistant Production Manager.
  • Minimum 7 years sailing on a Fishing Vessel, preferably bottom trawl vessel experience.
  • HACCP Supervisor level certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Production Teams and give advice on safety meetings.
  • Lead training sessions on production aspects and evaluate trainees.

An exciting opportunity exists for a PRODUCTION MANAGER ASSISTANT at I&J, Waterfront. The responsibility of this role is to ensure that all training requirements and assessments are completed for all Vessel Production Teams. To provide accurate and timeous reports to the Operations Process Manager on a monthly basis. To sail with the vessels when required in order to provide feedback relating to production needs and areas that need attention.

Reporting Structure
  • Reports to: Operations Process Manager
Key Areas of Impact
  • Support and assist Production Teams
  • Give the Managers advice about toolbox talks, production meetings and safety meetings. This must be logged on their registers to board the vessel.
  • Ensure that the Managers understand their task when they go out at sea.
  • Work alongside the Production Managers to ensure that the company get the best quality product from the vessel.
  • Advise and recommend where production improvement can be implemented.
  • Supervising and motivating the production crew.
  • Check on how the contractors handle the product when discharging the vessels.
  • Check to see how the fish had been packed and check in the discharge area.
  • Update the Manager when vessels are alongside. Update them on how the turnaround was and whether there were any issues with any crew or factory members.
Training and Development
  • Lead training sessions on various aspects of production, including equipment operation, quality control, safety procedures, and company policies.
  • Evaluate trainees' work, provide feedback, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Keep records of training completed, track employee progress, and update training materials as needed.
Stock Management
  • Do regular packaging counts and check on-board consumables stock.
  • Do the bookings of factory equipment to be repaired.
  • Overseeing the loading of packaging and stores from start to finish up until the vessel sails.
Compliance and Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance to HACCP and GMP protocols.
  • Ensure compliance to all I&J policies and procedures escalating and deviation to the Operations Processing Manager.
  • Evaluate any risks within the production section on the vessel and identify appropriate corrective action.
  • Verify that all documents and certificates for production crew are valid and complete including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to mitigate any risk.
Quality and Food Safety
  • Ensure all food safety protocols are adhered to within the production teams.
  • Provide training and training interventions for all compliance.
What It Takes to Succeed

Experience that set you up for success:

  • Minimum 2 years sailing as Production Manager or Assistant Production Manager
  • Minimum 7 years sailing on a Fishing Vessel, preferably bottom trawl vessel experience
Qualifications & Certifications that will contribute to your success
  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Pre-Sea or Seaman’s Book
  • Diploma or Degree in Manufacturing
  • Baarder Certification would be advantageous
Additional requirements
  • MS Office experiences including MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, Power Point
  • SAP experience with reservations and approvals
