Location: Cape Town (Preferred) / Johannesburg - This is a hybrid position (combination of in-office and remote work).

Contract type: Fixed Term, with opportunity for permanent in 2026

Purpose Statement:

The Production Manager oversees the seamless creation and delivery of high-quality content across client projects within the Content Division. This role ensures that every production, from concept to final delivery, runs smoothly, efficiently, and to the highest creative standard.

Working closely with both internal teams and external crews, the Production Manager is responsible for turning ideas into action: creating and managing budgets, coordinating logistics, booking locations, and ensuring the right people are on every project. By combining strong organizational skills with creative intuition, they safeguard the heart of every production; ensuring that client visions are executed with precision, quality, and impact.

Main Outputs and Responsibilities
1. Production Planning & Management
  • Oversee end‑to‑end production of all video and static content projects, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
  • Translate creative concepts into actionable production plans with clear milestones and responsibilities.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor detailed production schedules — from pre‑production through post.
  • Coordinate all logistics, including location sourcing, crew bookings, permits, and equipment requirements.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet client expectations, SEM’s creative standards, and agreed deadlines.
2. Project & Client Coordination
  • Serve as the key point of contact between clients, internal creative teams, and external suppliers.
  • Lead production meetings and status updates, ensuring clarity across all stakeholders.
  • Anticipate potential challenges and proactively resolve issues that could impact timelines or quality.
  • Ensure consistent and professional communication with clients throughout the production process.
3. Budgeting & Financial Oversight
  • Create detailed production budgets and ensure projects stay within approved parameters.
  • Source and negotiate with suppliers, freelancers, and service providers to secure the best quality and value.
  • Track all costs and ensure accurate reconciliation of production expenses.
  • Support the Head of Content in improving production efficiencies and margin management.
4. Team & Resource Management
  • Supervise and support internal production team members (producers, coordinators, editors, designers) throughout project lifecycles.
  • Assign resources effectively based on workload, project needs, and skill sets.Foster a positive, solutions‑oriented team environment that balances creativity with operational discipline.
  • Oversee onboarding and briefing of external crew, freelancers, and suppliers to ensure alignment with SEM standards.
5. Process & Quality Control
  • Maintain and evolve SEM’s production workflows, documentation, and best practices.
  • Ensure all content delivered adheres to brand guidelines, creative intent, and technical specifications.
  • Implement consistent review and sign‑off processes to safeguard quality at every stage of production.
  • Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement in the Content Division’s production function.
Requirements:
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Media Production, Communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in content production.
