Job summary

Execustaff seeks a Product Development Engineer in KwaZulu Natal for a Northern KZN location. You will lead design and development projects, optimise costs, and work with suppliers to improve quality and compliance.

You will manage changes, run tests, and guide engineers and production teams through technical updates. The role requires 5+ years in product design and development, strong problem-solving and communication skills, and experience with manufacturing principles and ISO standards.

Qualifications

• BSc/BTech/BEng Mechanical Engineering required.
• CAD and SolidWorks advantageous.
• High level of computer literacy required.
• Experience with refrigeration cooling systems advantageous.
• 5+ years in Product Design and Development.
• Experience in Project Management.
• Design for manufacturing and Lean principles.
• Cost-based approach and problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead product development projects from start to finish for new and existing products.
• Optimise product cost and improve quality with suppliers.
• Communicate status and technical updates to stakeholders.
• Evaluate new materials and suppliers.
• Manage the Engineering Change Process.
• Lead projects with multidisciplinary teams.
• Conduct FMEA and address issues.
• Develop test methods and perform product testing for approval.
• Perform and approve ISIRs.
• Oversee the thermodynamic test laboratory and interpret results.
• Provide production support on product/process/quality/equipment issues.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory specs and perform LOA applications.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 17025 is advantageous.

Educational Requirements

• BSc/BTech/BEng Mechanical Engineering
• CAD, SolidWorks is an advantage
• High level of computer literacy

Experience

Responsibilities

• Lead product development projects from start to finish for new and existing products
• Optimise product cost and improve the product quality both internally and in conjunction with external suppliers
• Communicate project status and technical updates to stakeholders and management
• Perform evaluations of new materials and suppliers
• Management of the Engineering Change Process
• Lead projects with multidisciplinary teams
• Conduct FMEA studies and address issues raised
• Develop test methods and perform product testing for approval
• Perform and approve initial sample inspection reports (ISIR)
• Oversee the thermodynamic test laboratory
• Interpret thermodynamics test results and provide solutions for improvement
• Provide support to production with product/process/quality/equipment related issues
• Keep abreast of regulatory specifications and ensure product compliance
• Perform and support the Letter of Authority application process
• Familiarity with the following standards is an advantage: ISO 9001, ISO 17025.
• Any other product development and design functions as may be necessary
