Job Purpose Summary

To efficiently source and procure materials, equipment, and services required by the company, ensuring they meet the necessary quality standards and are acquired at the most competitive prices. This role is critical in supporting operational continuity and fulfilling customer requirements in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  1. Negotiate the purchase of materials required by the company, ensuring that these meet specifications and can be delivered at the correct time at the most favourable prices.
  2. Source and engage qualified suppliers, completing all necessary NDAs and evaluation processes to ensure reliable and compliant partnerships for current and future projects.
  3. Development of a sourcing strategy (where to purchase, considering demand and supply situations, while minimizing risk and costs) with all new projects.
  4. Continuous monitoring of outstanding purchase orders to ensure that these are timeously delivered as per call off orders and therefore eliminating overdue purchase orders.
  5. Monitoring of purchase orders to ensure that these are modified to meet changes in requirements.
  6. Maintain an up-to-date list of approved suppliers and negotiate pricing agreements to ensure the company secures the most favourable commercial terms.
  7. Monitor the performance of suppliers and products to ensure that they continuously meet the required standards.
  8. Prepare and present monthly cost update meetings, providing insights on supplier price increases, cost savings, and overall procurement performance.
  9. Ensure that RFCs are addressed with the supplier to identify the root cause and implement corrective action.
  10. Report any significant supply problems to ensure that value streams are kept aware of any potential difficulties.
  11. Obtain credit notes from suppliers in respect of PPVs in accordance with negotiated pricing and terms.
  12. Maintain strong supplier relationships built on continuity, reliability, trust, and professionalism.
  13. Assist in the monthly stock take process of counting raw materials, capturing stock and elimination of variances.
  14. Carry out other reasonable duties assigned by the department supervisor or manager.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • At least 2 years' experience in the purchasing function within a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of procurement principles, practices and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify opportunities and resolve procurement related issues.
  • Honesty & integrity at all times.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and establish priorities.
  • Previous experience within manufacturing stores environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of company and its products.
  • The ability to continuously improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Relevant post secondary degree, diploma or certificate.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft suite of products.
  • Proficient use and knowledge of ERP in respect of purchasing and related modules.
