OVERVIEW
The Procurement Manager - Packaging Materials and consumables is responsible for developing and managing sourcing strategies for all packaging-related requirements within the organisation. This role ensures that packaging materials are procured at the optimal balance of cost, quality, and service, while supporting sustainability objectives and maintaining strong supplier relationships. The position requires deep knowledge of packaging materials, market dynamics, and effective negotiation. This position requires frequent travel.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and execute procurement strategies for all packaging categories (e.g., paper, plastics, cartons, labels, films, containers, consumables).
- Conduct market research to identify new suppliers, emerging materials, and cost‑saving opportunities.
- Lead the supplier selection, evaluation, and onboarding process.
- Manage tender processes, RFQs, and contract negotiations to achieve the best commercial outcomes.
- Ensure security of supply and mitigate risks through robust procurement planning.
Supplier Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to enhance performance, quality, and innovation.
- Monitor supplier performance through KPIs, audits, and regular business reviews.
- Resolve supply issues, quality concerns, or operational challenges promptly.
Cost & Inventory Management
- Analyse cost drivers, price trends, and total cost of ownership to optimise spend.
- Work closely with Operations, Finance, and Replenishment teams to manage inventory levels and reduce waste.
- Track and report savings, cost avoidance, and budget performance.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all packaging materials meet internal specifications, regulatory standards, and sustainability requirements.
- Partner with Quality and R&D teams to support packaging trials, product changes, and continuous improvement projects.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, contracts, and documentation in line with company policies.
Sustainability & Innovation
- Drive initiatives to improve packaging sustainability, recyclability, and environmental impact.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders on innovative material solutions.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Production, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Engineering teams to support operational efficiency and new product launches. Provide subject‑matter expertise in packaging materials to guide decision‑making across the business.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years’ experience in procurement, with at least 2 years focused on packaging materials.
- Strong technical understanding of packaging materials (paper, plastic, flexible packaging, rigid packaging, etc.).
- Proven negotiation and contract management skills.
- Experience with ERP systems and procurement analytics tools.
- Knowledge of sustainability standards, packaging regulations, and quality systems.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem‑solving abilities.
