Job summary

Searchrsa.com is seeking a senior maintenance engineer to lead plant instrumentation maintenance, fault finding on PLCs and drives, and to ensure all work meets specifications and deadlines.

You will manage projects, adjudicate quotes, and maintain spares; develop maintenance procedures with Engineering, perform root cause analyses, promote safety, and lead a team of Technicians.

Qualifications

• 5-10 years of engineering or trade experience with 2-5 years in management.
• Strong knowledge of OHSACT and regulations.
• Experience with PLCs, drives and plant instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and fault find on plant instrumentation such as PLCs and Drives.
• Ensure projects meet specifications and deadlines by managing projects and quotes and OSHAct compliance.
• Be part of future site planning; recommend equipment and determine replacement lifespans.
• Classify and re-classify equipment to focus maintenance on critical assets and maintain spares.
• Set test procedures and obtain standard test methods from suppliers.
• Manage changes to base documentation (manuals, P&ID, instrumentation drawings).
• Develop maintenance procedures with Engineering by contacting suppliers and reviewing docs.
• Perform root cause analyses to optimize energy use and analyze electrical stoppages.
• Work safely and promote job safety; participate in after-hours standby duty.
• Manage a team of Technicians.

Job description

Job Responsibilities

• Maintain and fault find on plant instrumentation e.g. PLC, Drives, etc.
• Ensure that all projects and modifications meet required specifications and deadlines by managing projects, adjudicating quotes, and ensuring compliance with required specifications and OSHAct.
• Become an integral part of future planning on the site, recommending methods that will improve the end product, justifying the purchase of the best equipment, and determining the life span of electronic equipment and plans for replacement.
• Understand and own plant classifications by checking existing systems, classifying new equipment, and re-classifying own equipment when required to focus maintenance on critical equipment and maintain correct spares and stock levels.
• Set test procedures by recommending limits and specifications for all electronic equipment, using specialized methods, obtaining standard test methods from suppliers, and conducting periodic checks to perform correct fault finding and comply with PG Bison standards.
• Manage changes to base documentation, i.e., manuals, P&ID, and all instrumentation drawings.
• Develop maintenance procedures in conjunction with the Engineering department by contacting suppliers of relevant equipment, utilizing manuals, P&ID, and engineering documentation, and reviewing existing maintenance procedures.
• Perform root cause analyses by understanding the design basis of the equipment, optimizing the energy consumption of the plant, and analyzing electrical stoppages.
• Work safely and promote job safety.
• Perform after-hours standby duty on the plant.
• Manage a team of Technicians.

Required Minimum Qualification

• National Diploma, B.Eng. or BSC in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
• Recognized Engineering Trade Test.
• GCC will be an added advantage but not a prerequisite.

Required Minimum Experience

• Between 5-10 years of Engineering or Trade experience, of which 2-5 years should be in a management role.
• Advanced Automation will be an added advantage.
