Job summary

A leading manufacturer in the region is seeking a Process Engineer to provide chemical and process engineering expertise. The role focuses on improvements and optimizations in the Paper Machine 6 team. Candidates should have a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering and at least five years of experience in manufacturing. Familiarity with project management and pulp/paper processes is a plus. The job offers opportunities to influence safety and quality control initiatives.

Job description

SITE : ENSTRA MILL

DIVISION : ENSTRA (SPRINGS)

REPORTING TO : PROJECT & PROCESSING MANAGER

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To provide chemical and process engineering expertise to the Paper Machine 6 team by encompassing all aspects of plant modifications, process changes, design improvements, optimisations, control philosophy updates, trials, and major troubleshooting initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
PROCESS STANDARDS AND DOCUMENTATION

Adheres to all the standards and documentation of the process engineering discipline.

The following documents are combined in the work procedures for process engineers :

  • Project execution procedures.
  • Drawing standards for block diagrams and P&ID's.
  • Standards for investigation, design and evaluation reports.
  • Hazop study checklists.
  • Plant modification procedure.
  • Process descriptions standard.
  • Conceptual design reviews.
  • Hot and live commissioning procedures.
  • Isolation, installation, de-isolation and commissioning sequence procedures.
PROJECT EXECUTION
  • Performs initial technical investigation and problem solving
  • Consults with production, maintenance personnel
  • Completes process audits.
  • Compiles feasibility studies.
  • Runs design review meetings.
  • Completes process design
  • Compiles Mass and energy balances.
  • Responsible for block diagrams, P&ID's, piperuns and layout drawings.
  • Checks technical correctness of proposed modifications.
  • Checks and compares process with environmental standards / regulations.
  • Performs hazop studies (only process engineers qualified for doing hazop studies are allowed to do this)
Consults with other engineering disciplines
  • Provides process engineering input to project engineer during the implementation phase of a project.
  • Commissions installed equipment.
  • Evaluates the impact of implemented projects to ensure objectives were met
COST SAVING
  • Implements trials on machine to achieve variable and fixed costs savings as outlined in the budget
  • Optimises plant utilities i.e. water consumption / electricity consumption through modifications
  • Optimises automated control systems in the plant to achieve cost saving objectives and reduce waste.
SHEQ
Participates actively in Departmental Safety Program

Ensures environmental policies and procedures are enforced in area of responsibility

Contributes and supports all mill wide initiatives

Implements short interval control measurements to identify possible plant rejects as well as optimize production quality.
