Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Process Development Engineer for our client, a forward-thinking chemical company focused on sustainable solutions, to join the New Ventures team in Mahikeng, North West.

You will bridge lab research and pilot-scale demonstration, develop and optimize processes, perform feasibility studies, and contribute to safety, environmental and economic objectives while working in a hybrid setup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• 3–7 years of experience in process development, scale-up or related R&D roles.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize novel chemical processes for new product lines and sustainable technologies.
• Conduct feasibility studies, bench-scale experiments, and pilot plant trials.
• Analyze process data, perform simulations, and prepare technical reports.
• Develop preliminary process designs, including PFDs and mass/energy balances.
• Identify and evaluate potential scale-up challenges and risks.
• Collaborate with R&D scientists, project managers, and external partners.
• Ensure process designs align with safety, environmental, and economic objectives.
• Support the economic evaluation of new process technologies.
• Stay updated on emerging chemical process technologies and sustainability trends.
• Contribute to the creation of intellectual property and technical publications.

About the Role

This exciting role will involve the development and scale-up of innovative chemical processes for emerging markets and technologies. You will play a crucial part in bridging the gap between laboratory research and pilot-scale demonstration, evaluating process feasibility, and contributing to the design of future commercial plants. The ideal candidate possesses strong theoretical knowledge, practical experimental skills, and a passion for sustainability and innovation. This hybrid role allows for focused work both in the lab/office and remotely.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, contributing remotely and on-site in Mahikeng, North West .
