About the Position

The Principal Electrical Engineer serves as a senior technical specialist and discipline leader, responsible for independent engineering design, multidisciplinary project delivery, and technical assurance across Mventech’s EC&I sector portfolio.

The role requires someone who can:

  • provide leadership and mentorship to engineering teams,
  • support client interactions,
  • and contribute to the quality, performance, and reputation of Mventech’s engineering practice.

This role represents a significant step beyond intermediate/associate level, requiring maturity in engineering judgement, project leadership, and cross-functional coordination. The candidate will have experience in all stages of electrical design, from conceptualization to detailed design. Minimum Requirements

Education & Registration

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering / Systems Engineering / Business advantageous.
  • Registered as Professional Engineer (PrEng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (PrTechEng) with ECSA (required).
  • Member of a recognised professional engineering institution (required).
  • Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and contemporary engineering practice.

Experience

  • 10+ years relevant experience in mining, heavy industry, or large infrastructure projects.
  • Proven leadership of electrical engineering design, execution, and technical studies.
  • Experience operating within multi-disciplinary teams (Electrical, Mechanical, Process, C&S, Digital).
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and deliver project scopes, schedules, budgets, and technical outputs.
  • Familiarity with AACE Class 5–2 study phases and project execution processes.

Technical Competence

  • Advanced expertise in LV/MV electrical systems, reticulation, MCCs, substations, protection, and power studies.
  • Proficiency in ETAP, power systems modelling, fault studies, grading, arc flash analysis, and load flow modelling.
  • Working knowledge of SANS, IEC, NEC/IEEE, and relevant mining standards.
  • Experience preparing electrical design documents: SLDs, schematics, cable schedules, design criteria, specifications, BoQs, and commissioning documentation.
Key Responsibilities

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will provide senior technical leadership across the full engineering lifecycle. You will take responsibility for defining and delivering electrical design solutions, ensuring technical quality, and supporting the integration of electrical systems into broader project contexts. Your role includes translating project needs into clear scopes of work, developing design criteria, shaping engineering strategies, and guiding the preparation of specifications, drawings, models, and study deliverables.

You will oversee the planning and coordination of electrical work within multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring alignment between engineering design, cost models, schedules, and procurement strategies. The role also involves identifying risks, evaluating alternatives, and applying sound engineering judgement to determine the most practical and cost-effective solutions for our clients.

You will provide mentorship and direction to engineers and designers, reviewing their work, supporting their professional growth, and ensuring consistency with standards and good engineering practice. As a client-facing technical lead, you will help articulate engineering decisions, facilitate workshops and discussions, contribute to the development of proposals and project execution plans. You will maintain a high standard of communication, both technical and conceptual, and foster strong collaboration across teams.

Ultimately, you will act as a trusted technical authority within the discipline, driving quality, supporting project delivery, and enhancing Mventech’s capability and reputation in the market.
