Preparatory School Music Teacher

to commence duties in April 2026 (negotiable)

Herschel Girls School follows the IEB NSC qualification and is looking for an innovative and progressive teacher who seeks the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and excellent staff and school.

The successful applicant will be a suitably qualified teacher with a passion for leadership in her/his field.

The following criteria are essential:

  • Hold the necessary Music qualifications and be fully SACE registered
  • Ability to work within the Whole School Music Department, fostering a progressive, safe, inclusive, and dynamic learning environment through excellent relational skills
  • A demonstrable passion for and experience in teaching class music from Pre-Nursery to Grade 7
  • Experience in teaching multi-faceted music genres would be beneficial
  • Have instrumental teaching experience – indicate instrument(s), as well as the grade level to which you are qualified and able to teach
  • Experience in conducting and leading instrumental ensembles would be beneficial
  • Have the ability to teach aural and music theory
  • Teaching piano and accompaniment skills would be beneficial
  • The ability to explore a rapidly changing educational landscape with an openness and eagerness for ongoing professional and personal development to support change
  • The ability to integrate technology with confidence and flair to support a blended learning environment which engages students
  • Excellent administrative, communication and organisational skills
  • Healthy self-awareness and a well-developed sense of duty of care towards one’s students and one’s colleagues
  • An understanding and appreciation of girls’ education and the nuances applicable to support the educational premise of nurturing confident, independent, caring, resolute, and inspiring young women
  • A willingness to work within the values and ethos of the School and a commitment to involve oneself in the broader extramural programme on offer at the School
  • To hold at heart the School’s tagline of “leading the education of girls into a future of limitless possibilities” for oneself and for the pupils in one’s care
