Job summary

John Deere South Africa invites applications for an Agricultural Technology Solutions Engineer to design and implement smart farming solutions, integrating IoT sensors, data platforms and autonomous equipment for commercial farms across South Africa.

The role reports to the Head of Engineering and requires 3–5 years in agricultural tech, a relevant Bachelor’s degree, and strong communication skills for cross-functional teamwork.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years hands-on experience in agricultural technology or related engineering roles.
• Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural/Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
• Exposure to large-scale farming operations is valued.

Responsibilities

• Design and configure precision agriculture solutions including GPS-guided equipment and farm management software.
• Conduct on-site assessments to understand farm operations and translate findings into technical specs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop integration plans for hardware and software components.
• Provide technical support and training to end-users and troubleshoot issues.
• Lead pilot projects and field trials to refine algorithms and improve system reliability.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging ag-tech trends and regulatory standards.
