Job summary

National Chicks, within the Astral Group, seeks a skilled Quality Controller to uphold quality, hygiene, biosecurity, and standards at the Gauteng Hatchery. You will drive egg handling, hatchability, SOP development, and staff training to ensure top-tier production.

You will coordinate sampling, data analysis, and corrective actions, supporting audits and continuous improvement across QA processes and operational controls.

Qualifications

• A qualification in Animal Science, Animal production, Poultry Science or related field is required.
• Experience in quality control within an agricultural or poultry environment is advantageous.
• Strong computer literacy, with proficiency in Excel.

Responsibilities

• Pre-incubation management and handling of eggs.
• Egg quality control and hatchability monitoring.
• Incubation, hatching optimisation and corrective actions.
• Chick quality inspections and post-hatch environment control.
• Coordinate sampling, testing, and record keeping for quality metrics.
• Develop, review, and implement Quality SOPs and documentation.
• Train QC staff and enforce standardized procedures.
• Investigate non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
• Support audits, including hygiene, biosecurity, and 20 Keys.
