Job summary

Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Jeffreys Bay seeks a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant (PBQ) to support dispensing and pharmaceutical care. You will assist with prescriptions, stock control, and patient guidance under the supervision of a pharmacist.

The role requires Grade 12 and a Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification with SAPC registration. Advantageous: retail knowledge, Unisolv, SAP/E-Scripting, and oncology experience; fluency in languages and strong numeracy are beneficial.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric is required.
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification is required.
  • Registration with SAPC is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Assist with the compounding, manipulation or preparation of a non-sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and SOP.
  • Assist with the manufacturing of a non-sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and SOP.
  • Assist with repackaging of medicine.
  • Assist with the distribution and control of the stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Assist with the ordering of medicine and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6 as instructed.
  • Assist with reading and preparation of prescriptions, selection, manipulation or compounding, labelling and supply by a pharmacist.
  • Interpret scripts accurately and act within SAPC requirements.
  • Capture script details, verify patient details on the system.
  • Ensure accurate picking/packing/labeling and checking of medication and be aware of dosages and interactions.
  • Provide instructions to patients on correct medicine use.
  • Keep up to date with medical aid procedures and claims requirements.
  • Ensure medications are checked for accuracy by a pharmacist.
  • Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication and front-shop.
  • Follow up on script tracking and appointments as requested by the dispensary manager.
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients.
  • Provide information to promote health.
  • Process all paperwork for submission of medical aid claims and correct errors on rejected scripts.
  • Ensure authorization of chronic, HIV/AIDS and oncology medications.
  • Maintain customer profiles and merge where needed.
  • Report stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.
  • Receive and merchandise dispensary stock per SOPs and conduct FEFO stock rotation.
  • Facilitate bi-annual stock takes.
  • Exercise stock, cash and asset control.

Dis-Chem Pharmacies require the services of a reputable Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant (PBQ) for their Jeffreys Bay store. Your portfolio will cover the provision of pharmaceutical care by taking responsibility for the patient's medicine-related needs, and being accountable for meeting these needs.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
Advantageous:
  • Knowledge of Retail/ FMCG operations
  • Working experience on Unisolv
  • Oncology experience
  • 3rd Additional Language
  • Knowledge of or experience in SAP and E-Scripting
  • Drug and family planning, and complementary medicine
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist withthe sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist with the compounding, manipulation or preparation of a non-sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and standard operating procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist
  • Assist with the manufacturing of a non-sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and standard operating procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist
  • Assist withre-packaging of medicine
  • Assist withthe distribution and control of the stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist withthe ordering of medicine and scheduled substances up to, and including, Schedule 6 according to an instruction of a person authorised in terms of the Medicines Act to purchase or obtain such medicine or scheduled substance
  • Assist with the reading and preparation of a prescription’ the selection, manipulation or compounding of the medicine; the labelling and supply of the medicine, in an appropriate container following the interpretation and evaluation of the prescription by a pharmacist
  • Accurately interpret scripts and act in a professional and responsible manner and within the legal requirements in accordance with the SAPC
  • Capture script details accurately, and verify patients’ details on the system
  • Ensure accurate picking /packing/labelling and checking of medication and be aware of common dosages as well as important drug interactions
  • Give accurate instructions to patients regarding the correct use of medicine supplied
  • Keep abreast of changes in medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing
  • Ensure all medications are checked for accuracy by and signed by a pharmacist
  • Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication, and front-shop
  • Follow up with patients regarding script tracking report as requested by the dispensary manager, and follow up on appointments
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients
  • Provide information to individuals in order to promote health
  • Process all paperwork necessary for the accurate submission of claims to medical aids
  • Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aid
  • Ensure authorisation of chronic, HIV and AIDS and oncology medication
  • Maintain customer profiles on the system
  • Merge profiles locally and UCS should be notified to merge profiles centrally
  • Take note of any message on the customer profile, and take suitable action
  • Report on low / out of stock levels, and stock errors to the dispensary manager
  • Receive dispensary stock in accordance with Dis-Chem’s SOPs, and merchandise according to FEFO
  • Facilitate bi-annual stock takes
  • Exercise stock, cash and asset control
