Job description

An exciting vacancy exists for a Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant at Life Nkanyisa Kirkwood Care Centre (Chronic Care Facility) in Nqweba (Kirkwood). The position will report to the Pharmacy Manager and the successful candidate will contribute to the effective functioning of the Centre, being part of a dynamic professional team that is continuously striving for the highest standards of quality.

Responsibilities
  • Controlling of surgical and pharmaceutical stock in pharmacy
  • Ordering stock and receipting invoices in a timely and accurate manner
  • Capturing alerts pertaining to stock related issues
  • Assisting in aggressively managing dead stock in the hospital
  • Performing cycle counts and stock takes, capturing stock takes and investigating variances
  • Assisting in dispensing
  • Processing patient credits and stock transfers
  • Replenishing the emergency cupboard
  • Unpacking ethical and surgical stock, checking expiries and invoices
  • Ensuring that security protocols are adhered to
  • Maintaining high ethical and professional standards
  • Acquisition, control and distribution of stock to internal units
  • Liaising with nursing staff and doctors on formulary, stock and medical queries
  • Participating in the facility’s quality programs and initiatives
Requirements
  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Life Sciences
  • Qualification as a Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant and registration with the Pharmacy Council, with post basic experience and approximately 2–3 years’ experience within the healthcare industry
  • Relevant clinical knowledge and experience to the critical outputs
  • Understanding of pharmacy and the related healthcare industry, legislation, regulation and challenges
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical legislation
  • Pharmaceutical product knowledge
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office)
  • Competent in using IMEDS® (beneficial)
