The Department of Health in Gauteng seeks a Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic) to work under the supervision of a pharmacist in dispensing Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines, and to assist with compounding, manufacturing, and stock control within a pharmacy setting.

Responsibilities include reading prescriptions, labeling, supplying medicines, and providing patient information on correct use. Willingness to work weekends and extended hours is essential.

Formación

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification and eligibility for pharmacy registration.
• Basic computer skills and proficiency with Rx Solution.
• Availability to work on weekends (Public Holidays) and extended service hours.

Responsabilidades

• Dispensing of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances.
• Assist with compounding/manipulation or preparation of non-sterile or sterile schedule 1–4 medicines according to SOP.
• Assist with manufacturing of non-sterile or sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to a formula and SOP.
• Repacking of medicines and control of stock up to Schedule 6.
• Ordering medicines and scheduled substances according to instructions from a person authorized by the Medicines Act.
• Reading prescriptions, selecting and preparing medicines, labeling and supplying medicines.
• Provide patient information on correct use of medicines and promote health.

Requirements :

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification. Good communication, interpersonal skills, conflict management, time management, punctual, flexibility and operational planning skills. Ability to work independently, in groups and work under pressure. Basic computer skills and Rx Solution. Availability to work on weekends (Public Holidays) and also on Pharmacy extended service hours.

Duties :

• A pharmacists assistant registered in the category of pharmacist assistant (post basic) will perform the following services or acts under the direct personal supervision of a pharmacist in the pharmacy. Dispensing of schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances. Assist with the compounding manipulation or preparation of a non-sterile or sterile schedule 1 to schedule 4 medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and standard operating procedures approved. Assist with the manufacturing of a non-sterile or sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and standard operating procedures approved. The repacking of medicine, distribution and control of stock of schedule 1 to schedule 6 medicines or scheduled substances. Ordering of medicine and scheduled substances up to and including Schedule 6 according to an instruction of a person authorized in terms of the Medicines Act to purchase or obtain such medicines or scheduled substances. Reading and preparing of prescriptions, the selection, manipulation or compounding of the medicine. Labelling and supply of the medicine in an appropriate container following the interpretation and evaluation of the prescription by a pharmacist. The provision of instructions regarding the correct use of medicine supplied. Provide information to individuals in order to promote health, general housekeeping and administrative tasks.
