Job description
Sixth Form SEN Teacher - Autism & Complex Needs

Start Date: After February half term

Contract: Full-time

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Sixth Form SEN Teacher to join a specialist setting supporting autistic students with complex needs. The successful candidate will begin full time after February half term, with a handover day during the week commencing 9th February to support a smooth transition.

You will be teaching a small class of 10 Sixth Form students, supported by 5 experienced support staff who work alongside the class teacher throughout the day. All students are working at pre-entry to Entry Level 1 and present with autism, sensory needs and are largely non-verbal.

The Role
  • Deliver a practical, engaging and highly personalised curriculum
  • Teach functional skills through real‑life learning and community‑based activities
  • Plan and deliver lessons aligned to the ASDAN framework
  • Track and monitor student progress using MAPP
  • Use symbols, core boards and alternative communication methods to support communication
  • Promote independence, life skills and preparation for adulthood
  • Work collaboratively with a skilled support team and wider professionals
The Ideal Candidate Will
  • Be a qualified teacher with experience in SEN, ideally post‑16
  • Have strong knowledge of autism, sensory processing and non‑verbal communicationBe confident delivering functional, practical and life‑skills‑based learning
  • Understand the importance of communication development and independence
  • Be organised, patient and highly collaborative
  • Have experience with or a willingness to learn ASDAN and MAPP
