Purpose of the Role
The Plumber is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. This role requires technical expertise, problem‑solving skills, and a commitment to quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation: Install new plumbing systems, fixtures, and appliances (e.g., geysers, toilets, sinks, baths). Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems. Interpret blueprints and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks, and waste disposal systems.
- Maintenance & Repair: Diagnose and troubleshoot plumbing issues, including leaks, blockages, burst pipes, and malfunctioning water heaters. Repair or replace broken, damaged, or worn plumbing components. Conduct routine inspections of plumbing systems to identify and prevent potential problems.
- Client Interaction & Service: Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs, explain technical issues, and provide solutions. Ensure all work is completed to a high standard, meets client expectations, and complies with relevant regulations. Maintain a professional and courteous demeanour on client premises.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as relevant building codes and plumbing regulations (e.g., SANS). Ensure the work environment is kept clean and safe.
- Equipment & Materials Management: Ensure proper care, maintenance, and safe operation of all tools and equipment. Accurately record and account for parts and materials used on jobs. Replenish vehicle stock and workshop supplies as needed.
- Administration: Complete job cards, reports, and other necessary documentation accurately and time‑wise. Provide accurate estimates for labour and materials when required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education / Certification: Trade Test Certificate in Plumbing (Red Seal or equivalent). NQF Level 4 Qualification in Plumbing.
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
- Proficiency in basic mathematics relevant to plumbing calculations.
- Valid Driver's License (Code B or higher).
Experience
5 years of demonstrable experience as a Plumber. Experience in residential and commercial plumbing, including reactive plumbing, breakdown services, and new installations.

Working Conditions
This role involves working at various outdoor and indoor client sites, which may expose the employee to different weather conditions and environments. Physical demands include lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, and working in potentially cramped or awkward positions. May require working after‑hours or on weekends in response to emergency call‑outs.
