Job summary

Investec is seeking a Platform Engineer to join the Channel Data & Insights (CDI) team within the Client Experience Technology division. The role blends platform engineering with software and data platform work to deliver scalable telemetry, data contracts and AI-enabled automation.

You will design, build and operate Azure-based platforms, APIs and data products, driving governance, observability and reusable engineering patterns across channels and products.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in platform or related engineering domains.
• Experience with Azure-based production platforms and services.
• Experience with API-driven and event-driven architectures, telemetry and observability.
• Ability to translate requirements into secure, scalable engineering solutions.
• Familiarity with Terraform, IaC and CI/CD practices.

Description

Investec is looking for a Platform Engineer to join the Channel Data & Insights (CDI) team within the Client Experience Technology division. CDI builds and operates shared platform capabilities that capture, standardise, govern and operationalise behavioural, servicing and operational experience telemetry across the Group.

This role is hands‑on and sits at the intersection of platform engineering, software engineering, integration engineering and data platform engineering. The successful candidate will help CDI build trusted, reusable and scalable capabilities that support channel insight, experience measurement, data product enablement and AI‑enabled engineering automation.

Key Responsibilities

• Telemetry platform engineering: Design, build and operate CDI telemetry collection and ingress capabilities, reusable telemetry integration standards and producer onboarding patterns.
• Measurement architecture and event engineering: Support event standards, taxonomies, telemetry data contracts, schema versioning and measurement standards so experiences are measured consistently across channels and products.
• Data quality and contract enforcement: Build validation, conformance and quality monitoring controls that make telemetry trusted, reusable and certification‑ready.
• Azure platform engineering: Design, automate and operate secure Azure platform services using infrastructure as code, CI/CD and cloud governance practices.
• API and integration engineering: Build secure and scalable APIs and integration patterns using enterprise security, event‑driven architecture and reusable framework approaches.
• Data platform engineering: Support CDI's governed data foundation, including data ingestion, transformation patterns, lakehouse and medallion architecture, Databricks and Microsoft Fabric enablement.
• Platform observability and operational excellence: Implement monitoring, alerting, operational dashboards, reliability practices and health measures for production‑grade platform capabilities.
• Enablement and self‑service: Create engineering playbooks, onboarding guidance, technical standards, templates and reference implementations that help consumers onboard with less dependency on CDI.
• AI‑enabled engineering and automation: Use responsible AI‑enabled development practices, automation and documentation patterns to improve engineering productivity and consistency.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

• 7+ years experience in platform engineering, cloud engineering, software engineering, integration engineering or data platform engineering.
• Experience designing, building or operating Azure‑based platforms and production‑critical enterprise services.
• Experience with API‑driven and event‑driven architecture, telemetry collection, integration services and observability solutions.
• Working knowledge of data quality controls, data contracts, validation rules, schema management and governed data product enablement.
• Ability to work with business, data, analytics, technology and governance stakeholders to translate requirements into secure, scalable and reusable engineering solutions.
• Comfortable operating in ambiguity, documenting standards, supporting adoption and improving ways of working across teams.
• Azure platform services such as Azure API Management, Event Hubs, Functions, Container Apps, Storage, Monitor, Log Analytics, Key Vault, VNets and Managed Identity.
• Infrastructure automation and delivery practices, including Terraform, Azure Bicep, Azure DevOps, GitOps and CI/CD.
• Software engineering skills including .NET, C#, ASP.NET Core, REST APIs, OpenAPI / Swagger, OAuth2 and TypeScript.
• Data engineering capability across Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, Python, SQL and PySpark where applicable.
• Telemetry and observability capability, including event‑driven architecture, telemetry engineering, schema design, event contracts, data quality controls, OpenTelemetry, Dynatrace and Azure Monitor.
