Our Client in Gauteng, is looking to hire a Plant Manager with Construction and Mining Experience. As the Plant Manager in construction and mining you will oversee the plant and machinery operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness by managing maintenance, production, budgets, and staff. Key responsibilities include ensuring equipment meets standards and production targets, maintaining a competent workforce through training and development, complying with safety and environmental regulations, and analysing performance data for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee Plant Operations: Manage the daily operations of machinery, workshops, and production processes to meet quality standards and output volumes.
- Equipment Management: Ensure all plant and heavy machinery are well-maintained, serviced, and meet OEM standards and production demands.
- Safety & Compliance: Implement and enforce strict safety protocols, environmental regulations, and Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) compliance to maintain a safe working environment.
- Budget & Cost Control: Develop and manage maintenance and operational budgets, creating cost-effective strategies to minimize production costs and maximize efficiency.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead, supervise, train, and develop plant personnel, conducting performance reviews and succession planning to build a competent workforce.
- Performance Monitoring & Improvement: Analyse production data, performance metrics, and operational reports to identify areas for improvement, implementing corrective actions for continuous optimization.
- Resource & Project Management: Coordinate and manage resources, including manpower and equipment, and manage capital projects and facility maintenance.
- Reporting: Prepare reports and presentations for senior management on production activities and performance, maintaining accurate records of maintenance, production, and safety incidents.
Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of industry-standard equipment (like yellow metal machinery), maintenance, and relevant technical processes.
- Management Skills: Proven ability in leadership, decision-making, team building, and human resources management.
- Business Acumen: Knowledge of business principles, including budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and profit and loss projections.
- Safety & Quality: Thorough understanding of safety regulations, quality assurance plans, and best practices.
- Computer Literacy: Proficiency in using computer software for reports and record-keeping.
Educational Background
A Bachelor's degree in Business Management or a related field is often required.
Experience
10 to 15 years of experience in plant management, operations management within the construction or mining sectors, and experience leading large teams.
