Key Responsibilities
  • Manage, control, and support all the requirements for apprenticeships with in the engineering department.
  • Design and oversee the installation and maintenance of plant equipment.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment malfunctions.
  • Evaluate and improve plant processes for efficiency and safety.
  • Assessing the operational functionality and efficiency of plant systems and machinery.
  • Designing and implementing plans for the installation and maintenance of plant machinery.
  • Performing routine inspections of equipment and machinery to ensure proper function and compliance with safety standards.
  • Identifying and addressing equipment malfunctions and system performance issues.
  • Collaborating with the plant management team to devise strategies for improving plant performance and reducing operational costs.
  • Ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations relating to plant operations.
  • Implementing quality control programs and safety measures to prevent accidents and ensure worker safety.
  • Managing inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies needed for plant operations.
  • Supervising and training plant operations staff.
  • Continuous learning and staying updated with advancements in technology and changes in regulations is a crucial part of a Plant Engineers career.
  • Providing monthly reports.
  • Managing and oversight of the engineering department and workshop of more than 10 employees.
  • Ultimate responsibility of the functioning, safety, and control of all site equipment of more than 40 pieces or machinery, including solar.
  • All other projects and ad hoc requests as prescribed by senior management.
Minimum Requirements
  • Proven work experience as a Plant Engineer.
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation related to industry.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD or other computer-aided design software.
  • In-depth knowledge of South African labour legislation, OHSA and ASIB.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to influence and guide at all levels.
  • Highly organised, with excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Resilient and able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
  • High degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering concepts, including electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems.

  • Must have a solid understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and practices, as well as practical experience in design, operation, and maintenance of equipment and machinery.
  • Certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Certified Plant Engineer (CPE) may be beneficial.
  • Hands-on experience in the manufacturing industry.
