Job summary

Imerys in South Africa seeks a Plant Controller to lead standard costing, operational accounting, and internal controls across site operations.

The role requires an accounting diploma or degree and at least 5 years in cost accounting, cost analysis, or plant controlling in an industrial setting; SAP S4Hana experience is preferred.

You will manage fixed assets, stock reconciliation in ERP, budgets, and monthly plant reporting to support site management.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and IFRS and related local regulations.
• Experience in cost accounting, cost analysis, or plant controlling in an industrial context.
• Proficiency with SAP S4Hana and ERP data extraction.
• Ability to analyze energy, mining and inventory data for costing and performance insights.

Responsibilities

• Standard costing and product valuation.
• Operational accounting including inventories and journal entries and depletion calculations.
• Define and apply internal control procedures for stock values and site processes.
• Manage Fixed Assets and stock reconciliation in ERP to keep balance sheet accurate.
• Oversee ledgers, cost centers, and general ledger accounts.
• Coordinate local internal and external audits related to inventory and fixed assets.

Plant Controller Job Summary

• 1. Standard Costing: Calculate and update standard costs to ensure accurate product valuation.
• 2. Operational Accounting: Calculate, book, or review operational journal entries, including inventories, mining, and activity accruals.Control financial impact of mining plan (Reserves & Overburden assets, Depletion, UoP).
• 3. Internal Control: Define, maintain, and apply local internal control procedures for recording stock values and ensuring site-level process adherence.
• 4. Fixed Assets & Stock: Manage Fixed Assets and physical stock reconciliation with the ERP system to ensure the balance sheet is properly stated. Review capital expenditure requests
• 5. Ledger Oversight: Oversee accounting ledgers, ensuring the correct utilization of cost centers and General Ledger (G/L) accounts.
• 6. Audit Management: Coordinate local internal and external audit follow-up for the scope of activities, specifically regarding inventory and fixed assets.

• 1. Budgeting & Forecasting: Build site-level budgets and financial forecasts in alignment with group guidelines.
• 2. Performance Reporting: Complete monthly plant reporting files, providing key messages to Industrial Controlling and local management regarding major cost deviations.
• 3. Data Analysis: Extract necessary data from the ERP (e.g., energy consumption, mining, inventory data) and perform ad hoc analysis to improve cost and production performance.
• 4. Process Collaboration: Provide relevant financial explanations and data to support the BA Hub Controller and Site Manager on a monthly basis or as part of periodical planning processes.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

Education: Accounting diploma or degree in Economics/Finance. Experience: Minimum 5 years experience as a Cost Accountant, Cost Analyst, or Plant Controller in an industrial context.
