Responsibilities and Duties
- Preparation of corporate income tax returns and supporting schedules using electronically captured data.
- Calculation of provisional tax payments and preparation of IRP6 provisional tax returns.

Group Audit & Tax Manager – Johannesburg
Overview: Group Audit & Tax Manager (CA(SA)).
Full-time role based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Key Areas of Ownership
- Consolidate general ledgers and trial balances from Xero, Sage, and iScala into a single system.
- Drive year-end close, including post-adjustment journals for banks, VAT, payables, receivables, term loans, IFRS 9 ECL, IFRS 16 leases, valuations, and depreciation.
- Prepare group financial statements in full IFRS / IAS compliance, including elimination journals, cash-flow workings, shareholder loans, covenant schedules, and disclosures.
- Draft and defend complex accounting position papers on revenue recognition, financial instruments, business combinations, share-based payments, and more.
- Plan and manage end-to-end external audit engagements, sample testing coordination, query tracking, status dashboards, and discussion with external auditors.
- Produce comprehensive audit working papers, supervise fieldwork, and secure sign-off within covenant deadlines.
- Prepare SARS submissions: VAT, PAYE, income tax, and provisional tax.
- Compute current and deferred tax for financial statements and SARS to reconcile to the general ledger.
- Handle SARS queries and audits.
- Optimize effective tax rate via loss utilization, S12L incentives, withholding mechanics, and cash-flow timing.
- Manage and advise on capital gains tax, withholding tax and efficient tax structuring.
- Migrate the fixed asset register from Excel to an automated module, embedding controls over additions, disposals, and impairments.
- Manage depreciation, revaluations, and componentisation in line with IAS 16 and IFRS 13.
- Lead annual physical verifications, asset tagging, and reconciliation to the general ledger.
- Champion data integrity between source ERPs and consolidation models.
- Shorten the close calendar; author standard operating procedures and maintain accounting manuals.
- Mentor finance controllers on IFRS nuances and audit readiness.
Qualifications
- Qualified CA(SA) with at least 5 years post-articles experience in group reporting or audit.
- Deep command of IFRS, IAS, and Companies Act, adept at drafting technical memorandums.
- Proven track record of consolidating entities.
- Hands-on experience with SARS e‑Filing, transfer‑pricing regulations.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong stakeholder management: auditors, bankers, EXCO, and SARSE.
