Job summary

Dis-Chem Pharmacies Richards Bay is seeking a Pharmacist to dispense medications, provide pharmaceutical expertise to patients and healthcare professionals, and ensure safe use of prescription medicines.

You will interpret scripts, capture details, and handle claims to medical aids while maintaining accurate patient records. The role requires SAPC registration and retail pharmacy experience in a busy store environment.

Qualifications

• Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
• Grade 12 / Matric is required.
• 2–3 years’ experience in Pharmaceuticals and 2–3 years in retail pharmacy.

Responsibilities

• Dispense medications under supervision of Pharmacist.
• Interpret scripts accurately and verify patient details.
• Ensure correct picking, packing, labelling and checking of medications.
• Provide clear instructions to patients on how to use medicines.
• Process paperwork for claims to medical aids and manage documentation.
• Maintain and update customer profiles and handle admin tasks.
• Monitor stock levels and assist with stock control and loss prevention.

Job description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies has an opportunity for a Pharmacist at our Richards Bay store. You will be responsible for dispensing medications, providing pharmaceutical expertise to patients and healthcareprofessionals, and ensuring the safe and effective use of prescription medications.

Minimum Requirements:

Essential:

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
• Min 2- 3 years' experience in Pharmaceutical
• 2-3 years retail pharmacy experience

Advantageous:

• Third additional language
• SAP experience
• E-scripting experience
• Registered tutor

Duties and Responsibilities

Dispensing of Medication:

• Dispensing of Medication under direct personal supervision of Pharmacist
• Accurately interpret scripts and act in a professional and responsible manner and within the legal requirements in accordance with the South African Pharmaceutical Council.
• Capture script details accurately and verify patient’s details on the system.
• Ensure accurate picking / packing / labelling and checking of medication and be aware of common dosages as well as important drug interactions.
• Provide accurate instructions to the patients regarding the correct use of medicine supplied.
• Keep abreast of changes in medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.

Customer Service:

• Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter and front-shop.
• Follow up with patients regarding script tracking report as requested by the dispensary manager and follow up appointments.
• Explain all medical aid costs to patients. Administration:
• Process all paperwork necessary for the accurate submission of claims to medical aids.
• Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aid.
• Ensure authorization of chronic, HIV and AIDS and oncology medication.
• Maintain customer profiles on the system.
• Merge profiles locally and Vexall should be notified to merge profiles centrally.
• Take note of any messages on the customer profile and take suitable action.

Stock Control:

• Report on low - / out of stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.
• Exercise stock, cash and asset control
• Comprehensive medicine knowledge including common dosing regimes, interactions and counselling to ensure appropriate and effective treatment outcomes. Understanding of Retail as pertains to pharmacy.
• Ability to think critically
• Possess excellent communication skills to guide patients on medication usage and side effects. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate with people from all sections of the community. English and 2nd language – Read, write and speak
• Finds solutions to potential issues as well as knowing when to escape the problem and what level to escape it to.
• Acts as a role model to others and talks to others about the need for high standards and quality. Demonstrates drive to ensure that quality is not compromised.
• Time management. Able to meet deadlines. Demonstrate patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
