Dis-Chem Pharmacies require the services of a reputable Post Basic Qualify Pharmacist Assistant for our Upington store.

Your portfolio will cover the provision of pharmaceutical care by taking responsibility for the patient's medicine-related needs and being accountable for meeting these needs.

Qualifications

Grade 12 Mathematics (HG), Life Science and or Physical Science with at least an average of 50%.

Basic Pharmacist Assistant Qualification.

Responsibilities

Sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances.

Assist with the compounding, manipulation or preparation of non-sterile or sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved formulas and Standard Operating Procedures.

Assist with the manufacturing of non-sterile or sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved formulas and SOPs.

Distribution and control of stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 6 medicines or scheduled substances.

Ordering of medicine and scheduled substances up to and including Schedule 6 under the instruction of a person authorised to purchase such substances.

Reading, preparing and supplying prescriptions following the pharmacist's interpretation and evaluation.

Providing instructions regarding correct use of medicines supplied.

Providing information to individuals to promote health.

Dispensing (under direct personal supervision of a pharmacist)

Accurately interpret scripts and act professionally and responsibly within legal requirements.

Capture script details accurately and verify patient details on the system.

Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling and checking of medication, including awareness of common dosages and important drug interactions.

Give accurate instructions to patients regarding correct use of medicine supplied.

Keep abreast of changes in medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.

Ensure all prescriptions entered are checked for accuracy by a pharmacist and signed by a pharmacist.

Customer Service

Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter and front shop.

Follow up with patients regarding script tracking reports and appointments as requested by the dispensary manager.

Explain all medical aid costs to patients.

Provide information to promote health.

Follow through on any promises made to customers.

Administrative Tasks

Process all paperwork necessary for accurate submission of claims to medical aids.

Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aid.

Ensure authorization of chronic, HIV, AIDS and oncology medication.

Maintain customer profiles on the system.

Merge profiles locally and notify UCS to merge profiles centrally.

Take note of any messages on the customer profile and take suitable action.

Stock Control

Report on low, out of stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.

Facilitate bi-annual stock takes and exercise stock, cash and asset control.
