Job Description

A dynamic and well-established law firm is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Personal Injury Associate Attorney to join their team in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in personal injury litigation, with specific expertise in complex medical malpractice and Road Accident Fund (RAF) matters.

Key Requirements
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of post-admission experience in personal injury litigation is required.
  • Specialized Focus: Demonstrable expertise and hands-on experience in managing and litigating both medical malpractice and Road Accident Fund (RAF) claims are essential.
  • Articles: Must have successfully completed articles of clerkship at a reputable personal injury law firm.
Core Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for handling a diverse caseload, including but not limited to:

  • Litigation Management: Taking full ownership of personal injury files from inception through to final resolution, including drafting pleadings, preparing court documents, and managing trial preparation.
  • Legal Research: Conducting thorough legal research and analysis related to medical malpractice, RAF legislation, and case law.
  • Client Management: Maintaining excellent client relationships, providing clear and timely legal advice, and attending consultations.
  • Court Appearances: Representing clients in various forums, including Magistrates' Courts and High Courts, for applications, pre-trials, and trials.
  • Negotiation & Settlement: Engaging in effective settlement negotiations, mediations, and arbitrations with opposing counsel and relevant entities (e.g., the RAF, medical insurers).
